If they aren't any better than the Marinco, then I'd think they were just ok. I'm not impressed with the Marino outlet I installed. Like a previous poster said, if there were a single Power Pole outlet that is about the same dimensions as a cigarette style outlet, that would be more desirable.

If you got them from the same place they still could be from the same bad lot depending on their turn-over rate.

I'm not defending them, but my experience with them hasn't been horrible either. I've got one that has popped loose of it's plastic retainer nut and that'll be a chore to get to. Not a fan of that aspect of the design.

Hope this applies. My fj40 has a little 2 prong plugin for a inspection light that came with vehicle. I found two more receptacles and put one in engine compartment and one near back doors. Couldn't find extra male plugs so made a couple extra. One I made into an adapter to a cig lighter receptacle so I could plug other items using that plug into.

Marinco stuff, what a piece of crap. I installed a locking outlet that I wasn't impressed with at all. The locking plug on my fridge failed this weekend after only being installed for a few months. The end sprung plunger (or whatever you call it) was sticking and losing connection with the outlet. Luckily I was able to take it apart and get it to work enough to get home.

I need to install another outlet and plug on a different vehicle, probably going to go simple with some power pole style connections sticking out from under the panel until I can find something better. Has anyone seen a single power pole outlet I could mount on the rear cargo panel (similar to how cig plugs are mounted)?

The DIN plug & socket. Very similar to the US "power port", but not interchangable. Gets high marks from the BMW & Adventure Rider M/C crowd, at least from what I've seen. Haven't researched vendors in the US, might have a look at the ADV forums. There must be some availability as I pulled two sockets from an old ambulance in the JY.

I suspect that the Marinco of today isn't the Marinco of the past. Those used to be almost bullet-proof.

Thanks for that, I'll have a look around. I had originally purchased a trolling motor outlet and plug, which would have been fine if the plug wasn't so hard to remove. I had to twist it so hard, it would spin the outlet. I'll get a different style outlet for my LX and just buy a separate fridge cord for my other truck since I don't use the fridge in there much.

I'm pretty sure someone told me not to use the cigarette style ports, but I guess I will learn the hard way.

Just out of curiosity what would you guys pay for a Power Pole connector that had the same form factor as a cigarette lighter. In other words would be a direct replacement with no modifications to the vehicle.

I would pay $20 for a sturdy locking outlet that is the same size as a cigarette lighter style. Power pole setup is logical because of the existing availability of plugs. Surprised it hasn't been made yet.

I'm thinking about doing this in the rear storage pocket of my LX since I have the space, it's $9.

I'm surprised too. I'm going to do some number but at first glance I don't think I could hit the $20 price point unless the volume was there. If I get time I'll piece one together and do a DIY thread.

Looks nice, I wonder how it performs. Do you have any of these? Might be exactly what I need.

After further googling, the BMW Powerlet is derived from the ISO 4165 power connector. Also known as the Hella or Merit plug in Australia.

Yes, my first experience with the Hella style was when I took delivery of my then Kimberly Kamper in early 2009. They are a very positive, secure connection.

And many different options for female, male and cig adapters too. Having said that I use a Anderson style Powerpole, with the removable locking clip to secure the connection between my Waeco and the rear aux fuse panel in my 100.

All of this because of the issues most others here have voiced about the 50's style cig lighter plugs, Marinco, locking, etc., that have proven unreliable for much more than lighting cigs ;)

I do like the power poles. With a lot of RC cars we use Dean connections. They do carry large amps and voltage but i'm not sure if they would work for these applications.

I do have a west marine 12v cigarette outlet that i ran to the rear of my 80 for the fridge. It functions best when you screw ¼ turn the power plug into it and it then kind of secures in the socket. Clever idea and it does work well. I have not had any issues with this particular plug and i've had all kinds of gear packed around and on top of it.

With that said, if i were to do it again i would probably use power poles.

I haven't had connectivity issues with the Marinco/West Marine plugs and sockets. I have had problems with the socket's plastic body threads and retainer ring's plastic threads not holding secure.

My NL fridge came with the plug and socket shown on post #31.
I havent had any issues with it.
Im looking to get another plug to use on my portable air compressor..
Im running 8 gauge wire all the way to the cargo area..

I had a very hard time installing the outlet with the threads missing on two parts of the back piece (to save the 2 seconds it takes to screw it all the way down). Every time I would get it almost tight, it would come loose.

The plug that malfunctioned, I figured out my wife was unplugging it instead of from the fridge when not in use, I guess it wore out. I got it fixed and it seems to be stable in the outlet now. Very glad someone mentioned the 4165/BMW/Hella/Merit plug & outlet.

I used the Anderson Powerpoles in my 100 series. I ran 8 guage from the battery to a blue sea 6 circuit fuse block placed in the rear cargo area, then 14 guage from there to my Powerpoles receptacle.

I ran my Dometic CF50 for the last 10 days while we tent camped from Texas, up through Colorado, then on to NW Wyoming. It worked like a champ. I was very pleased.
