What's left of the maroon 100 at OK Auto parts in Richland. Non-locked rear, some body panels, 3 good 16" wheels and some small interior parts...Ole girl "gave up the ghost"...

What are signs of a starter going out? I backed mine out today to get to my riding mower out and it hesitated a bit like a weakish battery but the battery gauge on the dash showed good voltage. Did it a little bit again when i moved it back in after 1 HR of mowing. Pulled it in and turned it off and restarted right away and it was normal. It sat for about 10 days before moving today.

Well crap. Is it a good idea to go ahead and change it out now before it fails? I'm guessing it is a bitch to change out on a 100. Maybe it can be part of its physical therapy at 49 cruisers by @offr0adlim0

Andy mine is doing it too. I have read up on it and it's on the bottom of the engine against the fire wall, gotta be Gumby to not have to move a lot to get to it. I think I read like 7 hours of labor??!

Maybe @wct49 will give us a 2 for 1?

Starter is under the intake manifold. Intake must be removed.

@offr0adlim0 is that the driver side, because my manifold is rattling like crazy. I probably need to do both at once?

Intake manifold. You are thinking exhaust. Look for a shield that may be loose. You can hose clamp it.

@wngrog I should have said tick, and it gets worse under load so it's not the shield I don't think, it's the exhaust manifold.

but I haven't fully investigated yet.....ie the truck is to muddy and I've been to busy to get under it.

^ that @BMThiker looks frustrating

Holy s***. They probably stick it there so you can't hit it with a hammer. After some advice I am going to replace the battery to see if it helps. Doesn't hurt to have a new one.

@AndyO78FJ40 how old is your battery. I just checked and mine is 3 years old, but truck does some sitting so I may atleast have it tested.

odd thing is my start issue is intermittent. will go 20 cranks (a week) without doing it, then suddenly it'll turn over but not start....

@ntsaint i know. I need to take care of it.

@Bossman full turn over. Ive read threads on key fob issues, alarms, starter solenoids, gizmos in steering column, coil pack, etc

Im clueless
