Was outside of Charlotte. Talked to them about it a month ago they were very shady about the transmission. If you type in the vin in the Toyota owners site it shows when they got it there was a report with a transmission issue and there was a recommendation it be replaced but couldn't give me an answer of whether it was done or not. Also water pump and timing belt had not been done.

I figure expensive repair turned down and traded in so stealership passed that savings on to the next person.

Cheers to the Age of Information.

So, I couldn't stomach the thought of spending the next 5 days in the land cruiser without my spotify music and the original unit is severely lacking (although the tape deck was cool).
So, I ripped it out:

Used the metra wiring harness 70-8112, connected 4 wires and 30 minutes later we are rolling:

I like that it looks factory-ish and I set the color to try and match the rest of the displays. It has Bluetooth hands free, etc...this is where I installed my hands free microphone:

I'm pleased

What year is your LX, again? Yeah, I think the problem with those is that the climate controls that are integrated into the NAV system. So, you get the joy of choosing between good tunes and heat/ac.

Latest research I can find indicates that it is a still a cost-prohibitive hassle to do the whole head unit (see below), so those aftermarket add-on adapters (USASpec) may be your only option.

No LX yet, but our future LX will be for the wife and she's gravitating toward probably an '04 and newer.

Martin put one of the USASpec iPod interface things in his/my LS430 and it works great. Well, it did. The cord has a short, I just need to have it changed out.

I'm cool with that option vs. a new head unit, especially if it can be connected via Bluetooth instead of a cord.

I've changed a starter on my 80 Series. Now the 100 needs the starter changed or contacts replaced.

I have no FSM for the 100.

Try to tackle it myself, or take it to the shop?

I'm a 1-banana shade tree, at best.

You just have to take the top of the motor off. 4/5 banana.

That's what I figured/thought I remembered. I'll call my guy for a quote (he'll quote me $100)...not sure how pissed he'll be when he's done!

Speakers are next. I know I'm under-utilizing the HU by using factory speakers, but I also think (could be wrong) you underutilize new speakers when you don't bypass/upgrade the factory amp, which is a more expensive/time-consuming process (just squeezed this in pre-crawl out of desperation). That's next on the list though. Also, I 100% agree that sound system upgrade is the most satisfying upgrade after tires and lift.

Does your head use the factory amp? Mine bypassed the amp. I would like to eventually add a small amp and a small powered sub. Would love something that fits in the factory spot. Don't want to lose any interior space.

Yes, the Metra wiring harness connects the aftermarket HU to factory amp.

I found a thread somewhere where someone did custom subs integrated in the rear panels and it looked good (as opposed to the gangsta boom box in the back cargo space). I'll see if I can locate and send it to you.

Pain in the ass but I did it. Effing knock sensors were fragile when I got in there... delayed me another 48hrs to order.
If you have time to kill you can do it , worst part is the rear bolts of the starter.

Bouncy coming down. Right before I got tippy going uphill and discovered that I hate tippy. Really really hate it...

Thanks to dnp, will and Ryan for working that out.

Fix them damn brakes, man!
