I got about 8-9 mpg pulling the zuk behind the 80. it takes a couple of tanks to get to hot springs with or without a trailer so i thought that wasn't bad mpg.
I'm looking at buying some tires locally, that are mounted on a set of 100 series 18" wheels that have been painted black. I am thinking of buying the set, and selling the wheels to re-coup some of the cost.
Any local recommendations for a 100 windshield? I have read that installing this windshield is tough. Doing it wrong results in water leaking directly onto the ECU! Design flaw!
Here's the story we got...
"My friend Corbin was in the front seat tying his shoes, so his seatbelt couldn't be on. A dog ran out in front of me, so I slammed on the brakes so I wouldn't kill the poor dog. Corbin's head flew into the windshield and now the windshield is all cracked up. People should keep their dogs behind a fence or on a leash! We gave Corbin the concussion test and he pretty much passed."
If you have State Farm Ins and comprehensive/glass coverage, you can get an OEM Toyota windshield for $100. If you request OEM they have to use it. I just did this about a year ago. Can even pick if you want the green Toyota tint or the bronze Lexus tint.
I did the 80 recently. Make sure they change the gasket. PO changed the windshield and not the gasket. I guess he didn't notice the leaks b/c it doesn't rain much in Colorado Springs, but after a few ms downpours it was leaking like a sieve. Used venables in Madison on 51, and they managed to remove the windshield with no damage and reinstall it.
^ What Garth said. What usually happens is the glass monkeys installers want to use screws rather than taking the time to get the correct rivets. Then, when the glass is installed, the glass contacts the screws and doesn't lie flat against the windshield frame (ask me how I know all of this). As for who to do it? Wow, that's a good question. I'd try Mid-State first and explain, in detail, your concerns.
If you choose to use Toyota glass, be SURE to confirm with your insurance carrier BEFORE installation that they will pay for factory glass. I requested Lexus glass before I changed it in my LX, and State Farm agreed. However, after it was installed and they found out it was a $1,400 piece of glass, they tried to back out and leave me holding the bag. We eventually got it worked out, but I'm just advising not to assume they'll pay for whatever you put in.......get a confirmation from your agent before you go that route.
