TTT.. anything?

Nothing yet. I was going to give him till Thursday and call if I hadn't heard anything.

I realized the 1f motor I have offered to Charles at my cost is missing a carb. Anyone have one sitting around?

My carb off the 2F wont' fit?

carb should bolt up depending on the intake manifold. older ones used smaller carbs so the bolt pattern will be different

I got a whole box full.. YOu all know how to find me if ya need one.. I'll donate to this project if it comes to fruition.

TTT.. Any updates for the new year? Anything you need to get this thing rolling? You find the rocker arm assembly? Trace the oil path thru the engine to the top end? Was it a cam bearing? head gasket on backwards? Rocker arm pedistal in incorrect place? Rocker arm bar installed backwards?

I am going to start recommending that everyone that does rebuild open up the valvecover, start the engine, and watch to see if oil is flowing. I have read too many times about all the issues getting oil up to the galley.

Erik- would this work to see if all is good?

Update

I was out of town for almost two weeks over Christmas and couldn't get the ball rolling before I left. As of yesterday the Rocker Assembly is on its way from Austin, TX.

The machine shop is honoring their warranty. They put the head gasket on upside down. Blocking the oil passage. Once the shrapnel (sp) was removed from the cylinder the crank would spin again. There was some pretty bad scoring in one cylinder so it's being sleeved. The rocker assembly was beyond repair.

"Erik- would this work to see if all is good? "

Pretty much how I've done it. it'll take a while to "dribble" but yes. I've seen that headgasket issue MANY times..

Any updates charles?

Any updates charles?

Knowing the motor was supposed to be done two weeks ago, I took spring break off to put it in. unfortunately it's not done. So I took a couple of my girls and we went to Dallas for a few days. I'm gonna quit guessing when it will be ready.

I'm still in Dallas, but if I can figure out how to post a pix from my phone i'll let you in on one of or projects here.

As some on here know, my sister recently bought an FJ40 with a 3FE. So we took the top off and rigged a system to hang it from the ceiling. Should be a one person job from here on out.

Okay, can't figure out how to attach a picture from the phone. I'll have to do it when I get back in town.

Charles-

Good to hear you have not thrown in the towel. When you get close to putting the engine in, let us know, you might find some extra hands.

Cheers!

Here's Rhonda

As you can tell by my last post, I'm not so good using my phone to post. Here are a couple pictures of my sisters FJ40 "Rhonda."

We very simplistically mounted the top to her ceiling. And hopefully set it up to be a one person job in the future.

PS Rhonda is the Cruiser not my sister.

Rhonda looks good! Like the chrome wheels on her.

So, whatever happened on Rhonda. Wasn't she the one that the clutch gave out on the drive home?

I went through several over engineered ideas before a trip to Lowe's and the lightbulb went off. The back has a couple of rubber coated utility hooks that are curved on about a 3 inch radius. They had holes in the top that worked perfectly for the hooks from the ratchets to fit. On the other side of Rhonda is a workbench with about $70 worth of pulleys and a hand winch like you would find on a boat trailer. It would have looked awesome, but probably not worked as well as this. Overall we're both pleased with the results. I should have taken more pictures.

Kelly,
Yes this is the one that had the clutch go out. I got a few references on MUD and she ended up getting it to "Texican" a little north of Dallas. He was definitely the right guy to take care of it. Really treated my sister well fixing a couple smaller items here and there while it was in the shop. There's a lot of PO type stuff on her but overall a great truck. I drove it this past week and it drives great. With the top off the 4" **** For Stout springs make it ride like a lumber wagon.

My head is going to explode

I can't remember the last time I've been so pissed. I finally got the motor back from the machine shop today. I'm cleaning it up to put a coat of paint on before reinstalling it, when a bolt head on the side cover pops off in my hand. Apparently the shop broke a bolt off and instead of extracting it and putting a new bolt in they, just left it and rtv'd the bolt head back in place.

Can someone please reccomend a decent machine shop to double check the last ones work. I also had a post in the 40 section regarding his solution to no oil to the head. Apparently he machined a groove in the cam because he was not getting oil to the head. It didn't seem like it would be too bad a solution so I was going to let it go. But now I want to have all his work double checked. Hopefully I can work it out to where it is at his expense. Sorry for the rant , but I haven't stopped to count to 10 yet.

Here's my original post on the oil to head issue. https://forum.ih8mud.com/40-55-series-tech/490468-2f-oil-head.html

seriously? there are a few things wrong with no oil to the head..
cam bearing
head gasket in backwards
rocker pedestal in wrong spot
blockage
that is it.. those are the only things wrong.. NOW having said that a po of my 45 tapped a line into the oil pressure gauge and drilled a hole thru the valve cover and oiled the head.. GETTO but i'm not keeping that motor.
I would get your $ back all of it. I have a ton of spare head bolts.

ok. read the responses in your above link. you got the masters to post up. I agree with them sounds like wrong cam. will it work? yes.. Would i be happy about the head bolt? NO! How far down into the block is it broken? did they torque the head correctly? Could you lose a head gasket? POssibly. Like I said i have head bolts sitting in a bin here at the house.. YOur pressure gauge is at the office if you need it as well.. I won't be there all week but it will.
