Been having a bit of a grrrrr sound coming from the front. It gets louder when turning right going into curves or changing lanes which had me thinking it was probably my drivers side wheel bearing. So on my last oil change with Toyota I asked them to rotate my tires and check the driver side wheel bearing. Upon checking out I was told it was my passenger side front bearing and it would cost in the neighborhood of $700 to $900 (cant remember exact amount)

I've yet to jack the front end up and check the truck out myself assuming I would feel the bad bearing by spinning the wheel? I am of the mind that the grrrrr sound coming in when I turned right would mean it was the driver side bearing since the weight shifts to that side. However, as I said, the dealership said it was the passenger side and I want to make sure before tearing the wrong side down, obviously. Thoughts?

I found this site for fully assembled wheel bearings with new hubs.

Anyone recommend someone else? I did see a cheaper assembly from bamaguy (I think is his username) which I may end up using instead.

Pull the wheel and rotate the hub by hand - you should be able to feel it.

I have two bluepit assemblies on my truck. Andy is a great guy to deal with, and his products are top notch. If you buy the bluepit assemblies, pay the extra $ and get the OEM bearings.

Put all 4 wheels on jack stands if you have them, have someone drive the truck at whatever speed you hear the bearings make noise, and put a long screwdriver on them or use a stethoscope to pinpoint.

Are you serious? I'm having nightmares just thinking of me doing that. Maybe I'm just a puss idk.

I did one, didn't fix it, did the other a few months later, no more grrrrr.

Used the guy on T4R Forum. Few bucks cheaper but still uses Koyo bearings and OEM flange.

I proactively replaced both of mine. If you have 130-150k on original bearings, I would just suggest to replace them as PM.

I replaced both sides @107K miles when I bought the truck. Not sure how long they were bad though. Perhaps the worn bearings is more prevalent on the GX than the other 120 series is because they use the same bearings on the FJ and the 4runner on a heavier platform?

Nah. It's un-sprung weight...

okay, dusting off the cob webs here as I'm elbow deep in a front end refresh and am at the same quality bearing onto a hub issue.
I bought bearings w/o hubs and am back peddling to get them pressed together vs return all this crap and get quality pre-assembled. CRUX seems to be bearing quality.

Dormans @ napa have limited LT but I need to verify what bearing iis in them, vs the NAPA-branded assemblies with lesser warranty.

Do ppl have recommendations of quality bearings to look for in pre-assembled hub-bearings?
Koyo, NSK, SKF

Anyone here use the front bearing assmbly from Yota Bearings and Hubs? They are significantly cheaper than other though they aren't made with a Koyo bearing.

Yes. They've been in my rig for 2 years. No issues.

Though if I were to do it again - I'd consider SKF pre-assembled bearings/hubs, which are $104 each on Rock Auto. SKF is a Swedish company that is known for making good parts - I used their bearings in the back of one of our Subarus and they were good quality.

I’ll look into this. I’ve seen a lot SKF bearings used in industrial settings.

Have been using the yotabearingsandhubs for quite a few years now, no issues. Website says it comes with koyo or nsk bearing, not really sure but back when I got mine they were koyo. Working fine regardless.

I been running SKF for last 2 years with 35x10.50R17 tires. For the prices they great.
Pressing the spindle needs special tooling and big company invest in highly precision equipment to be able to get Repeatable quality results. Something I have big concerns with small outfit using harbor freight press to sell you assembled hubs.
