just wondering what others would think. It turned out almost how I wanted it, except for where the tire is in relation to the back of the rig. for specs its 2x2x3/16" tubing. Home made hinge 2"O.D. seamless and 1-3/4" O.D. tubing on the inside, grease fitting and a snug fit(no rattles). probably the cleanest thing I've made so far.
Thinking about cutting the angled piece at the top and shortening about an inch and a half.

say what you want.

Yeah, I'd prolly lower it a little. So you can see a little out that window. Now try to find an old Con Fer jerry can carrier; they fit the cruiser wheel bolt pattern so it rides on the rear of the tire and they're adjustable for tire width. Your carrier looks stout, and this would turn it into a can carrier too. I don't know if SOR still has some.

Great angle of departure. Scary field of view. Not sure how to fix that.

Glad I only have to worry about 33s. ;p

I hope that spare never has to get you out of a low traction situation. Nice fab work, with the top off, it wont matter how high it sits. My spare nearly covers my window too. Hodag

You could lower it but you usually look out the passenger side anyway - unless you have eyes in the back of your head.

You might add a gusset or brace to the lower 90* where it bolts to the bumper, especially if you're gonna add a jerry can full of fuel. I can't tell if it's attached to anything at the hinge end or not. The arm multiplies the weight riding on your mounting plate and washboard roads do bad things to welds over time.

You might also throw a couple gussets on the main riser while you're at it - sucks to be driving along and notice that your spare is no longe with you - don't ask how I know that;)

Maybe leave the tire out a ways and then you can fab a plate for a hi-lift to stand on and secure it to the riser behind the tire - looking good though, put a cooler on the other side and you're good to go.

I'm thinking I'll add another support out by the tail light where there are two pre taped holes for two 12mm bolts. the hi-lift Idea sounds good and I already have a jerry can mount that goes on my tail gate in the summer.

shorten that piece till the tire is 1 " away and put some gussets on the stand pipe.
Your idea of a bolt on brace to the door or corner is good or else it will wobble .

the closer you can get the tire to the truck the less wobble youll get and less stress on the carrier. all in all it looks real good though. nice work

I like the way you can get the pass amby door open without opening the tire carrier. Does the tire stick out past the driver's side sheet metal? It looks like it does from the pic, but not sure. I would worry about it catching trees and branches on the trail.

When I did mine, I positioned it up high like yours, but in far enough that I could put on a 38" tire (even though I only have 35's...planning ahead :D )

Also if it was in closer to the truck, it would put less stress on the joints. Make sure it doesn't flex much while the truck is in motion. Eventually the flexing would weaken the joints.

Here's a shot of mine for a position reference.

Dude, how much extra crap did you weld to that cage kit, talk about playing on the monkey bars to get into the back seat. You must have small kids, or you are a family of midgets. Oh, I mean "little people"

You might catch a few more branches but no big deal, chances are if you're in that thick of stuff they are already sctarching the hell out of the entire rig by the time they reach the spare tire.

The bumper brace is a good idea, i think it will be required really - then add gussets everywhere and you should be in business. Lookin' good guys

Catching the branches seems to happen more often than you might think. Or at least it did to me.

As far as the extra crap, there is more than a little. Including seat frames and 6 frame attachment points. Call me overprotective. :flipoff2:

The bench seat didn't work out great. I got rid of it and put in a mini-PRP racing bucket for the 5 year old. I still have to toss him over the back of it to get him in though. :D

nice shackle angle too. its a very nice rig though

Makes for a really smooth ride.

Put me in the "Pinnacle springs suck" category. No worries. I'll spring it over on e of these days.
