EDIT AGAIN FOR AN UPDATE TO PULLOUT TIME-

Payette Draw- Saturday, July 28th

Ok, since it's just Cody and I, I'd like to meet a bit earlier to beat the crowd. We will PULL OUT of the Maverik before 9:00. If you're planning to attend but haven't posted up, be at the Maverik Gas station by 8:30, because when I and Cody hit that station I will fill up and we're out of there. It may be before 9, but certainly not before 8:30 so if you want to join us be there by 8:30 AM. Any questions you can call me at 602_6197177.

TRAIL- 3.0-3.5 depending on the lines you take. I've seen a stock 100 series run the trail, although he took some damage to rear lower control arms and bumper covers. 33" tires and some lift recommended minimum. There are lines that will challenge anyone, if you desire. Upper Payette, which I don't plan to run (but I'm happy to watch you run) has some 4.0 and better spots, including the famous Filter obstacle which pretty much requires a winch.

Bring your lunch, this is an all-day event.

I can't take it anymore. I've been waiting for months, hoping someone somewhere would suggest an outing, but it hasn't happened. I've been somewhat mollified with an occasional dusty road, but now it's time to get dirty. I would like to run a trail somewhere in the pines, 80-90 degree-ish or cooler, and within an hour or two of North Phoenix. I assume this rules out anything south of Phoenix, but if I'm wrong please don't hesitate to let me know. I have a limited schedule because I want to take the whole fam damily with me- wife, daughter and MIL, the wife works next Saturday the 21st and the MIL is only here through the 30th of this month. I'd like it to be fun, so 3-3.5 rating is preferred, something more than a graded forest road but less than rediculous. I'd be happy with a heavily rutted fire road IF the scenic value and temperature makes it attractive.

So, any suggestions/interest for a run on Sunday July 22nd, or either the following Saturday or Sunday the 28th or 29th, possibly near Payson or Crown King or anywhere else cool? Maybe an 7 or 8 AM meet depending on distance, lunch on the trail, back to Phoenix near or after dark.

Please, if you're interested, post up ASAP so we can work out the details and I can get an idea of what size group would be going. I get the feeling that people are itchin' to get out, and I'd like to cut this off somewhere around 10-12 trucks if possible. On the other hand, if no one wants to go, I'd like to post up elsewhere. I'd be happy with anything from 3 to 12 vehicles.

Anyone?

I'm interested, especially since I missed the fun stuff today since I was driving back from Cali.

I don't really have any fun trails to suggest, but I'd be happy to tag along when it gets figured out.

There was fun stuff today??? OK, one tag-along.

Rhino, you showing interest or just suggestions? I told Kevin that you'd be welcome despite his objections. :flipoff2:

I'm doing a late night cruise down Deep Well rd. Saturday August 15th to see the crazy tarantula(SP) swarms in that area with some guy & his family from the country club I work at in his new 4dr Jeep rubicon & me in the Fj40, should be muddy and besides the spiders there should be litterally tons of snakes to look at....

That sounds fun...

Are they all the common desert blonde tarantulas, or can we look forward to venomous bites?

Hopefully not, the tarantulas are all the same I don't know what kind they are... There are also littler spiders that hide in little holes... I spot then by seeing their eyes sparkle in the headlights, when I see then I trick my buddies into sticking a blade of grass or a small stick into the hole and when they pull the stick out the spider jumps out and will chase then a few feet.... Funny stuff...

What better way to get over your fear of spiders then encountering millions of them in one night.... I'd imagine if the 62 of yours has A/C driving with the windows up wouldn't be that bad...

The only reason I am going is because the people that want to go with me are old hippies and they supply me with Grateful Dead CD's to help me with my daily commute.. Because god knows driving in the FJ40 with no A/C in August is loads of fun!

Back to the original post..Spike, what's the plan? or is there one?

CSC activity and PLAN  now that would be a contradiction in terms ;p

particularly if Carl is in the party :flipoff2:

I don't have a plan. I see one suggeston for Smiley Rock, which is a fairly scenic trail but I can't remember how cool it would be. I was hoping for something cool, and new to me. Rhino made the Smiley Rock suggestion, but no clue as to whether or not he might be actually interested in going. Otherwise it looks like Blues Dawg and CodyRx7 showing interest. You two have any suggestions? If not, do either or you have a preference between Smiley Rock or Payette Draw? I would lean toward Payette of the two, but not heavily as it's been a while since I ran Smiley.

This Sunday is also still possible, and if there's anything going on this Saturday I'd probably jump at the chance to get out, although the family wouldn't make it.

Rhino, you comin'?
Anyone else?

smiley rock is around 6200FT ?? i havent done payette draw yet. i might be in cottonwood this w/e visiting a friend so i am not planning to go wheelin' unless its a last minute decision.

Ive never been to this Payette one....and Ive done Smiley Rock a bunch since its quite close to me....

Both seem pretty similar, except for the vids Ive seen of the Payette Draw waterfall being climbed by buggies and unimogs.

I'd be up for either of em.
