Only if you happen to be thinking about (or need to) swap out your brake booster:

2 weeks ago had a brake master go bad and fluid leaking to the booster ate it up as well ... so I got to replace both. I replaced with a stock master cylinder, however, the booster for a 74 fj40 (single diaphram) seemed impossible to find over the counter so I went searching the web for other options.

Final choice ... a booster from an early 80's Toyota mini truck. Rather than the standard mini-truck booster I grabbed one for the 1 ton truck (Part number 53-2460). It's a dual diaphram booster that's only about 1 inch longer than stock and has stock diameter. Bolts in with zero modifications. Brakes are much more powerful than original.

thanks dude........always good to have someone on the line testing it for a person who hasnt gotten around to it yet! thanks!

Who's part number is that? Got pics? Please!

The good news is I just got my hands on a set of stock springs, so I'm thinking since I'm gonna do all this work anyways...........

what was the price on it?
does a 71 have the same booster originally? going to need to replace mine, sounds like that might work.

From what I was able to learn all the boosters from 71-75 (i.e. drum brakes) were the same. It appears that late '75 was a switch to the dual diaphram booster which, in the case of an fj40, was BIG. Not diameter, just long. The bolt pattern, however, remained unchanged.

Pappy ... sorry no pics to supply. Lately I haven't had any luck getting pictures to post ... I'm not sure what's up with that. The part number (53-2460) was an Advanced Auto Parts number which I looked up on their web site:

http://www.advanceautoparts.com

However I believe some other stores use the same number. I know when I called NAPA they used it as well but said it would take forever to get it.

Rebuilt was $198. It was $50 more than the booster from a regular toyota mini truck or a 4 runner but $100 cheaper than CCOT wanted for me to send them to rebuild it and me not have a cruiser to drive for 3 weeks.

I just went from a 79 fj40 booster (supposed to be double diaphram) to a 79 mini booster (single) and noticed a huge improvement! so i think it just might be the booster going out on the first one.

BTW the 79 booster is about 8.5" in diameter and approx 7" long off the firewall, the 79 mini booster is the same 8.5" dia, and about 3.5 or 4" long off the firewall, huge difference. i had to space off the firewall for proper pedal adjustablitiy but was very little. The later mini boosters are closer to 9"s in diameter should still fit, and some have a alum spacer on the firewall which might work out better.
