 Yep, Another Cummins 4BT 80 on the road.

It's running and driving and almost finished. It needs the AC hooked up and a few other little odds and ends and it will be done.

Specs: 1991 FJ80, 1991 Cummins 4BT, rebuilt heavy duty 700R4, FJ60 split t-case (part time 4WD conversion), aftermarket intercooler, ARB bullbar, Kaymar rear bumper with swing out spare tire carrier, Safari Snorkel, Aisin hubs, 4" Slee lift, and LT315/75R15 (35's) Pro-Comp AT's on polished rims off of a 1997 FZJ80 for the extra BLING.

I did not want to get too carried away, as it is my wife's daily driver and soon to be Mommy wagon! ;) Enjoy

very sweet! Stock gears?

What kind of corrected fuel economy does it get on the highway?

Have you turned up the pump a little for some more power?

it's threads like these that give me hope that we may still be able to drive our 80s in 20 years...

beautiful work Grease... You are the man when it comes to a 4bt. Does the 4bta with the air to water intercooler fit under the hood of an 80? Are there any downfalls to this model of cummins?

What did the engine come out of and what are the torque/horsepower ratings?

Dave

Thanks for the replies. Now to answer a few questions:
1) No lockup as of yet. One of the things that has to be done before it is completed. Lockup will be controlled with a button, maybe the center diff lock switch.

2) Stock gears. I have put about 75 miles on it and it seems to turn the 35's pretty well. I can even accelerate uphill. As far as fuel economy goes, I have not driven it enough and have not determined how far my speedo/odo are off. Will post up the results as soon as I know. The last couple of 80's we did were getting low 20's mpg.

3) No body lift. Slee 4" suspension lift only and clears the Cummins oil pan quite nicely.

4) Engine came out of a Frito Lay P-van, 1 1/4 ton delivery van. Cummins 4BT engine rated at 105hp and can't remember the torque rating. I may turn up the injection pump for some extra power if I want to. I'll drive it like this for awhile until I feel the need for more power. Actually, I won't be driving it much. I guess I should say until the wife FEELS like she needs more power :D

Oh, this truck is now called FRITOTA II since my last truck (4BT powered FJ60) was called FRITOTA.

 thing of beaty - take a bunch more pics of the engine - I can't image it will look so clean forever....

couple questions...
how hard it this conversion... from the pics it looks like it fits right in.... any cutting or anything like that required???
How hard is it to get the wiring done. I'm guessing the 4bt isn't computer controlled so actually the wiring should be pretty easy right?
how easy is it to find one of these engines?
do they respond well to the same mods as the 6bt??
How much more does the engine weigh???

Awesome job, looks great!

Hopefully a 4BT will find its way under the hood of my 80 one of these years.

What have you gone to get it to pass safty and im. testing? What kind of budget did you work with? I am thinking of doing that conversion, nice truck and beautifully done!!

i don't believe that any state emmision tests diesels.... but some have laws about swapping a diesel into a gas vehicle

Super clean. Nice swap.
Do you have any pics of the swap process?
