Love the extended wheel-base from my 55 springs, but was never happy about affect on wheel-wells.

Finally decided to do something about it.

Why go to all the trouble of closing in the front side? Just trim the back out so that the tire is centered in the new opening. That way you've got room for bigger tires as well. In my opinion it looks better than the factory fender opening anyway and is much more functional.

I don't have any clear close up shots right now , but here a crop from a picture I do have handy to show what I mean.

Metal...both sides, pretty much ready for primer/paint = 5hrs

Originally I was looking for TJ flares, but never found any...

Game-plan is to shoot the whole truck next WE, and felt It was worth centering the rear wheel-wells in advance.

thanks,
manny

;)

I've got a stack of those "sorta crescent" shaped pieces like on the floor in your first picture. Left over from opening up fenderwells after SOAs.

Thanks for the posts, guys!! Now I know how I'm going to handle the lift on my '74, 55 rears, flipped 40 fronts, extended rear wheel-wells with TJ flares ! Probably 2.5 OME's all around, I have a 2" body lift already. Then drivelines and 38" Swampers. I LOVE THIS PLACE !!

just so you know, man-a-fre sells a fender flair that looks just like the the ones in mr manny's pics that is 4 inches longer in the middle so you can extend the wheel well back.

what type of seal is that you have installed on top of the tub where the hard top sets on? I have some rust issues in that area, and need something like that. Looks like that would be a lot easier than welding and patching the original sheet metal. Will the hard top mount back on it?

What you guys are looking at is not a "seal". It is the bottom "rail" of a soft top. Kayline or Specialty.

And no, the hard top will not go on over it.

I don't believe that is a bottom rail. The lip doesn't look big enough.

I think it's a weather strip that runs along the small top edge of the tub. I had never seen one like that until some friends and I started tearing into a parts truck we just got. Took the hard top off, and it had a thin rubber seal that ran around the top edge like that. And no, I'm not talking about the flat one that that sits between the tub and top that the bolts pass through. the parts rig had that one, too. This one is thinner and runs right along the top edge.

Have you guys ever seen those door-edge protectors at your auto-supply store of choice?
Your going to need 2 packages (4 strips total) to do your rear tub...they trim easily w/cutters (made of plastic).

They also tend to have a bit of adhesive in them, so you never have to worry about them after taping them in place.

The other nice thing, my Hardtop secures nicely without any issues...fits like a glove :D

ah, so it's not stock, huh?

Toyota may have something for this edge, not sure...
I got the idea from a similar edge-strip offered by CCOT.

Okay, I see. You guys were asking about the weather stripping in Manny's first photo. I was looking at his last on (right above your posted questions... The blue rig).

The weather stripping that he has on the rig his is working on... Your rig had something very simlar in that spot when it rolled out of the fctory.
