Hey, My new '75 needs discs up front. which conversion kit is recommended? I was looking at JT outfitters and Manafre. Are there others recommended?
Help!

got mine from a wrecked 60....

I did the mini stuff, works great.

that said, find a complete mini front ened (easy to find for $250 or less) and take what you need using the tech write ups. sell the housing and 3rd.

net cost $100-150.

cruise the for sale section of the marlin board for the front axle.

Bought my stuff from HI^C on this board. He sells the mini stuff that you need so you don't have to find a whole axle and take it apart yourself. Do it right the first time. Go mini all the way. Much stronger.

i did this a couple months ago to my '74 FJ40 and i used everything from a 60 from the knuckles out, and also the birfs (if you do this you do need to do some grinding on the ball) and you can use the short inner outta a 60 but not the long side. i had to do some playing around with the steering components but its all good now, just gunna take it in for a wheel alignment and it should be good. if you can go 60 of mini truck tho....vented rotors

Really it is the same as converting to FJ60/62 disk brakes. They use mini. You will need do some some grinding to make them fit. Best way is to find an FJ40 from a 9/75 or later which already has disk brake. Next best option is FJ60/62 or mini truck. You have to rework you steering in this case. I am going to use a FJ62 as I came across the front and rear for $100 for the both so I couldn't pass it up. The guy even threw in a set of aluminum wheels too.

I've got JT Outfitters and it works but now I'm in the process of switching to mini truck outers. Do it right the first time. Look in the tech section at the the top of the page.

What problems did you have and why are you changing over from the jt kit?
I have heard many people say that they switched over but, I am not sure why they are doing it.

Spend some time on the links in post 11. All been discussed before. 342,243,567,564,878,453,678 X E6 times.

WOW you guys are way ahead of me. I'll do some more research, like what's a Mini?!!! I feel so dumb.

a mini is a mini truck so like....the toyota 4WD pickups with the 4 bangers in them...some also have V6 and you can also use 4 runner calipers in a swap with the 60 stuff, you have to cut the backing plate a bit tho, i dont know about the rest of it out of a 4 runner. the steering stuff is pretty easy providing its not done at 2 am in the morning....if you do it then well expect more time and cursing then nessary. all i had to do is shorten my drag link and tie rod (dont attempt this unless you know how to weld and have a real welder) and used mini TRE's you end up taking about 3" off the length
