as Louis said Japan or as VT said Ens or you can try Micheal at westcoast cruisers...Dan at 4 wheel

Yup, mine started slipping, anybody know a source?
Justin at ENS said that his clutches are just for mine trucks, not turbo.
Local Exedy dealer did not have any luck with the TYK-6869 part number.

Any advice?

I would go with what ENS has to offer. As long as you dont abuse it will last a long time.
Lots of owners here use the stock clutch with a turbo.

I think its the low range work where your dragging the clutch out that does the damage.
If your looking for an Exedy, make sure it has the HD suffix on the end;)

hz clutches are US toyota parts, no need to jump to ENS for them.

the upgrade to a HD-T clutch may be warranted. The 300mm flywheel is not common used and a new one may be on the list.

The PP can be found at US dealers (CDan, Cabe Toyota, etc).

the disk is an Isuzu part (use search function isuzu + 1HD-T)

Ok, searched, thanks for all the great info Rick.

There were no clutches available in the US, in a bit of a hurry since I want the truck on the road in a day or two, gave 4wheel parts (very helpful) they had one sitting on the shelf, had them overnight just the disk to me since I figured that would tide me over till I had time to get all the parts.

I pulled the trany after work today, poked my head in the bellhousing and let out a few expletives.
The pressure plate in there is very clearly marked 1HD-T H151 (this could be misinformation since it is written in sharpie marker)
I ordered an HZ disk so I am thinking I am screwed.
I measured the contact surface of the flywheel, just under 12", converts over to about 300mm, like the HD is supposed to have.

Now there are two things that are really confusing me:
The first is that everything looks brand new, what gives? Why is it slipping? Clutch disk still seems quite thick, still plenty of travel on the PP.

Second, the 300mm clutch disk in there is marked TEQ and AISIN, but is 300mm and 21 splines. I thought this disk did not exist?

Any advice?
Is that isuzu disk a common US part?
I am off to search for the part number.

That pressure plate has a few differences to my 1HZ pressure plate such as the "fingers",the bits that radiate outwards for the bearing to push against. Your has 16,mine 15.
Also yours has 4 cutout bits on the outer curved part, mine has 3.
The clutch in my FJ73 was a bargain basement special so that could explain it:rolleyes:

My old clutch in the 75 was slipping but the mechanic said it looked good. I guess its the clamping effect from the pressure plate

Ok, I got the disk from 4wheel auto in, right on time, very nice quality, just as promised. Too bad I ordered the wrong thing.

I definitely have an entire HD-T clutch with an unknown, apparently Toyota disk. I was able to get an isuzu disk from a truck place out in Buffalo, MUCH better quality than the disk that was in there, works great. :bounce:

FYI
The Isuzu #8-94462789-3
Has been replaced with #8-97162966-1
Which has been replaced with GMC#94462789
Which has been replaced by GMC#97162966 (yeah, I spent a LONG time on the phone today)
The second Isuzu and the second GMC #s are current and show up in the respective systems. All are made by Exedy.

Photos of my new disk collection:
As they are in the pic:
new Isuzu..................Unknown TEQ
New 1HZ Exedy
(note diameter difference)

I am considering upgrading my clutch to 1HD-T spec when I turbo my HZ. My plan is to get a 1HD-T pressure plate etc. and the Isuzu disk for the H55F. Can anyone confirm that the 1HD-T pressure plate has a higher clamp force, and will be a direct install on a 1HZ?

Kevin, if you don't mind me asking, who did you get the isuzu disk from a how much did it cost?

I'm just buying the safari tuff from exedy, that is supposed to be a pretty good clutch.

I can tell you that you really do not need the 1HD-T parts in 1HZ even if you turbo it... Unless of course you are really bad at driving stick. I have several turboed 1HZ's and never needed more than the 1HZ clutch kits. Just my 2 cents.

Just a correction for you, there are clutches available in the US, I stock both exedy and toyota for the complete clutch kit, pressure plate, clutch disc, and TO bearing. Like crusher mentioned in earlier post.

Michael, turns out I need a new airbox for my HZJ79 - do you have one? I'm in if the price is right.

Also, I understand your new 79 serties has an H55F in it - do you have pics of how it is mounted - the crossmember? I want to put one in my HZJ79 but the cross member would hit the suspension arms.

Help would be appreciated.

Hey Louis,

Do you mean you are looking for the air cleaner box, newer one with air inlet toward the front or one on the side for snorkel??

My 79 series has the R151 NOT the H55F, they did not offer the H55F on the 79 series as far as I know, however the older 75 series crossmember for the H55F would probably work on the 79 series, I can post some pics of that setup if it will help. let me know.

Cheers,

Michael

I mean the type that has it coming out of the front and then angles into the fender.

I thought for sure you said it had an H55F in it, no biggy though. Naw, I'll just buy a new R151, I'm hoping I can get the winter out of it.

Let me know please.

Thanks.

Louis
