All,

I am putting an A343F in my project and I need to know what size the transmission hose input/output are. Is this just an AN fitting or is it a metric pipe fitting. I don't have the transmission in front of me and I would like to get the hoses ordered. Also if I am using an aftermarket cooler, how would I determine how much fluid to put in the system. I was told that very bad things happen if you over fill these transmissions.

*I am posting this thread in the 80 and 100 section, because I know that both models used the A343F. If that is a problem please just let me know and I will delete them.*

Thanks,
Ryan.

i can look at work tomorrow to see what transmission cooler will work and give you some info. But i don't know the awnser to your question so think of this as a bump

Thanks

SC40,

Thanks for the help. I have an tranny cooler that I am going to use. The fittings on the tranny cooler are -8AN. I just need to find out what the size, pitch, and whether the input/ouput from the transmission is male or female. That way I can order the hoses. You wouldn't happen to know what I should do about the transmission fluid do you? Since the transmission cooler will be higher then the fill hole on the transmission it won't be filled, will this make a difference? Do you just fill the transmission with the stock amount of fluid? It seems like that would put to much fluid in the hoses, cooler and leave nothing in the tranny.....

Thanks!
Ryan.

Can you esplain a little more what you're looking for? If I recall there's and inlet and outlet that elbow out of the transmission and are connected to hard lines with union nuts. Are you looking for the diameter of the pipe that comes out of the transmission, the union bolt thread and pitch, or the diameter of the hose that runs between and goes up to the tranny cooler?

Rookie2,

Good point. I am looking for the union bolt thread and pitch. That way I can get hoses and ends that will fit the Transmission. You wouldn't happen to know about the additional fluid capacity from using a larger cooler do you?

Thanks,
Ryan.

Well.... hmmm I got the adapters from Summit. I had ordered 8AN to metric 8mm/10mm/12mm/14mm/18mm none fit. I am back to the drawing board. Does anyone think that the threads on the transmission might be pipe thread? I am going to order the 20mm fitting, and 10AN to 8AN reducer to see if that will fit, but after that I am out of ideas. Aeroquip and Earls don't stock any AN to metric bigger the 20mm. Anyone have any ideas?

Ryan.

Dude, i'm sorry i have no idea. I'm very suprised however that no one has responnded.

Slackers.....??????????????

Really, the 80s come with aux coolers on their trucks, so not a lot of R&D going on here.

How about some pics of what your setup is. It would seem to me it's a simple case of buy 80 parts and bolting them in.

Rick, these are the only pics i have of his build.

I have 2 of these trans on my garage floor. They are very easy to access yet I am not at home till tomm, I remember that there is a overheat switch on one of the lines. Are you needing the size of the trans or the fitting out of the trans? does that make sense? are you going to use the overheat switch or not is the Q. I can get back to you tomm with the size. PM with pester note if I forget....

What's the problem then, you've got all the room in the world in there.

On an 80 the two lines are hard pipe that travel up over the top of the tranny and stop on the side of the engine at the starter.

Get those OEM hard lines and then go rubber from there. That is how Toyota did it. All the fittings and lines can be gotten from CDan to get you to the starter position..

There is even a retainer clamp to hold those hard lines in position that screws into the top of the bell housing.

Sorry hopefully I am not making this too difficult. I have the transmission, but I don't have room in front of the radiator for the cooler. I had to go with a fan driven cooler since it was going to be out of the air flow.

The cooler looks like this :

The transmission looks like:

It is an 8AN fitting on the cooler. I need to adapt the 8AN line to the transmission. I am having a hard time finding the fitting size on the transmission and an adapter to adapt the fitting meteric/pipe/etc to 8AN hose fitting.

Hope that helps.

One more of the 55 since I have gotten the 3 link done.

I guess that is my last resort. I don't have the lines that came with the transmission and I was hoping I wouldn't have to buy them from Toyota since the metric to AN adapters are only $8 and I am sure the factory lines will be 10x that.

Ryan.
