I think that the blocks did change at some point based on a few people that have gotten Frankenstein engines and not been able to put together a conversion to a mechanical pump setup. Top is the timing gears for a 15B-F (I think it's the same as the 15B-FT with a rotary pump) bottom is a 15B-FTE
The inline pump has an external automatic timing adjuster, that is built into the injection pump drive gear; the rotary pumps have internal adjustment. So you can't just use the rotary pump drive gear with the inline pump.
I have an A443F, and TC if you're interested. Though mine is from a 15B-FT, so I'm not sure what's different. It is electronically controlled, but also has a cable that runs from the IP throttle to the trans.
One thing to be aware of with the split case is that there were two different idler shaft diameters; 34mm and later 38mm. You need to know which size you have when ordering a new gearset.
Other than the engine, does anybody know how much different there is between the VM and 3B motor BJ7x? I have a 15B-FT I plan to swap in, which should be pretty easy with the 3B, but with the VM am I going to have to rewire half the vehicle? I have a B series to H55f bellhousing and input...
