Problem with your edic:
in order
1: check ground contact motor edic and check fuse line
2:connector edic contact failure ( check the connector(s) )
3: bad contact inside the circular strip contact because old grease ( in the motor) clean and change the grease
4:electrical box control edic...

for me different points must be checked:
identify the precise assembly of each shoe ( top/down )
then remove them
open the 4 wheel cylinder and control the seals inside ( no rust inside and no seal sticked , and also presence of the inside spring )
on your picture two outside seals must...
in Europe , number on the frame ,
and also number (tag) graved on a plate aluminum , front fender , side passenger ,
under the lower fixation of air filter box , this plate is easy to remove because the two fixations are screws !

if you weld , it will be impossible to stop the rust at this point

small smoke white = problem water or oil
