I bought one with a rebuilt title. Was in an accident in 2002, front right fender was replaced for sure and I imagine the grille as well but the hood appears to be original. Way I see it, back in 2002 these cars had depreciated so much that nearly any accident could be enough to total it...

I’ve had a mechanical pump go bad. Started off with similar symptoms to yours. Started intermittent and kept getting worse and worse until fuel started shooting out the weep hole. This was a cheap one from Auto Zone. Replaced it with OEM Toyota and have had no problems since.

I don’t notice an odor with mouse milk at all, so you should be good!
