Does the drain hose press into a firewall grommet to secure that end?
I’m wondering if I could press a tubing elbow into the firewall, then connect some hose to the elbow…
Just being a cheapskate!!
I’m going to jump into the conversation here because I have the same problem: the 2 rubber tubes on the engine-side of the firewall of my ‘73 FJ40 are completely dry rotted and falling out.
I need to understand a little better what these drain lines do. The lines look like they drain the well...
It was 33 degrees here this am, but my FJ40 started right up with the aid of the choke. After it warmed up I shut off the choke and it ran at 900 rpm, 21 in Hg, at an unknown timing.
I rotated the dizzy CCW to achieve the max vacuum of 23 in Hg. I backed it off to 22 in Hg at 1000 rpm.
I...
Thank you sir! It was a war of attrition… I just refused to give up, though I almost did. Every time I was stumped the Panel of Experts weighed in to give me more ideas. Thanks to all!!
I am happy to announce that the patient is out of the hospital!!!
The Idle Stop Solenoid was The Problem. It was intermiitantly working, so I disassembled it, cleaned all the innards, and put it back together. Now it clicks very positively to its positions.
The effect was immediate. The...
Pighead, I returned to the stop solenoid today and it worked sluggishly and intermittently. So, I disassembled the solenoid and cleaned the varnish off every thing with alcohol and q-tips. After reassembly, it works great. Gonna crank the beast up tomorrow to see if this helped.
So I don’t...
I pulled it apart, cleaned all the varnish off every part with q-tips and isopropyl alcohol. Reassembled and it works great now. Gonna give the engine a start tomorrow to see if that helps my idle issues.
I did a quick check of my Stop Solenoid which tested ok on the workbench. I’m getting the 12vdc signal from the ignition switch as per design. But the solenoid is working only intermittently. That is, it pulls in ok, but doesn’t release consistently. I’m gonna pull it apart and see if I can...
I’m gonna try that this afternoon.
Two questions from the “nube”:
What’s the best way to check to see that my throttle plates are completely closed?
And
When I look at the SOR photos of carburetor linkage (attached) all of the samples shown have a linkage from the diaphragm operated device to...
I installed two thread repairs (Helicoils) for my intake manifold carb mounting studs, and installed the carb. Phooey! No change in the idle problem. (Since I leak-checked the base of the carb 4-5 times this shouldn’t have been a surprise to me I guess.)
Tried installing the carb with the base...
I got my thread repair kit this pm, so I’ll be fixing the two stripped studs soon. But I found an old ih8mud post that discussed the evils of using the two gaskets on the carburetor base spacer. There were some very definite opinions about NOT using the gaskets. The spacer does appear to have a...
OK, I may have found (another) “smoking gun” for my vacuum leak. When reinstalling my carb this pm, I couldn’t tighten the two forward nuts. The studs were spinning. I pulled the studs out and ran a 8-1.25 die over them to clean the threads. (Please see photos to see the hard pieces of metal...
