Forgive the forum necromancy, but is this our best/most current 3FE EGR solutions thread?
I have the original intake from my 3FE, complete with EGR, and if this is still not a “solved problem” I’d love to be of service to the community and put it to use in finding a solution for posterity.
@Desert Dino -Bruchim Ha’Baim! I was up late scouring the forums for what options I have with a clunk shifting into/out of gear on my ‘91… and find this thread just in time to learn of both cruiserfest and your visit to Utah.
I’ll DM you, with plenty more recommendations of where to eat, etc...
@ToyotaMatt this the use case I meant: 90A alt in an 80A truck.
Grinding the motor mount with an angle grinder, in place, isn't difficult:
But the different tab/ear location starts you very close the extreme end of adjustment range on the 80A bracket, as seen in this photo:
and the...
Matt, a bracket to handle the 90A alternators would be peachy. I mangled one of mine with a grinder to allow juuuust enough room to get the belt to tension, but either a block with proper angling (to go between the motor and the bracket) or a longer bracket would both be great.
@Marco Lau no leaks all weekend, I think it was the rad cap that day.
Either way, the liland 3-row has kept the temps down just fine up hills and down in 100 degree Utah heat.
@Marco Lau My 3FE came to me with a liland and for the two Utah summers I’ve had it running, it’s never had a motor temp issue.
I just found coolant under the truck yesterday, and will investigate this weekend. I’ll let you know if I find any faults in the rad itself.
Thanks, man! Yeah, better brakes are a definite need now. I plan to stick at 33ish until my diffs are regeared, then see how it feels.
It’s a tad tall for me atm, and the regear should fix that.
I put in a Toyota reman (Denso) 90A alternator.
A 4” grinder wheel from HF worked plenty well on the lower bracket/motor mount, but the real trick was the upper bracket.
Toyota part# 16381-61060 is NLA, but it looks only an inch or so different in slot distance, so I gave it a shot. I drilled a...
Upgraded the wheels and tires to a set taken off of an FJ Cruiser. They’re a couple inches taller than the wranglers on stock 15s were, and I’m now able to upgrade the brakes with zero anxiety about caliper size.
The hub sticks out far enough on the fronts to cause issues with the center caps...
I see I'm a bit late to answer you in realtime, but I'm replacing my alternator too.
I'm modding my 80A bracket per 3FE 90 amp alternator sanity check - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/3fe-90-amp-alternator-sanity-check.1020821/post-11324130.
The discussion in that thread begins at 3FE 90...
When I saw that, I legit wondered out loud to myself if you or @leonard_nemoy were going to get there before anybody else I know in the area. Do post on it, if you go!
Can't comment on vs OEM, but my aluminum liland has handled 100+ degree temps in Utah just fine. PO put it in, but I'm pretty sure it's the one you can find on Amazon.
I'm not super worried about the brand of paper gasket... It's paper.
I used the one that came with my aisin one from cruiser outfitters, but it looks identical to the felpro one from the kit I bought. No sealant, just black gasket paper.
That said... the cleanliness of the block's mating...
