May want to check the fuel inlet to the carb. What does the sight glass on the carb look like when it’s acting up? If it has fuel when it’s acting up then you can probably eliminate fuel delivery problems.

Had similar issue. My problem ended up being the expansion valve. Total,pain to,diagnose. I ended up replacing the entire system as I didn’t know the age of everything. Ended up discovering that the compressor and dryer I had were new. Guess I have backups.
