Thanks mate 👍👍 It's addictive stuff. There's some kind of perverse enjoyment that comes from taking something everyone says is s*** and trying to turn it into something half way decent. That said, if this happens again I'll probably have to reconsider that idea 😬
Cripes... don't say that...
Yeah I thought about Evans but $$$ and not being able to top up with water in an emergency are downsides. Honestly with the big custom radiator the cooling is so good it barely ever rises more than 3 or 4 degrees C above the thermostat opening temp even with sustained 1000F EGTs prior to the...
Iamkeenas - Certainly no unnecessary piping in that WTA setup! A good idea there
GTS - If you ever get around to employing your configurable MAP sensor idea, I might be keen to get one off you!
That's great to know regards the potentiometer folks 👍👍👍
I might have got to that already had I not been dealing with another round of failed cylinder head drama 😖 The problems started right after the turbo swap. When that job was done I went back to an 88oC thermostat, but the housing didn't...
I finally managed to get hold of the correct Chelic speed controller and have been playing around with some basic tuning so figured it was time for another post. I couldn't find anywhere online to purchase these but in the end Chelic were kind enough to build 5 to order. I have teed the speed...
Thanks for that 👍 Just to flesh things out a bit, I have a bit of a weird glow setup in my truck. When the head went years ago I opted for an aftermarket replacement which I regret to this day. The starting was mint prior to that but has never been 100% consistent since. Now, I have a glow timer...
Would also be keen to know where to find the MAP sensor wire at the ECU / what colour etc. If you manage to figure it out, please post it up here!
Weird you're struggling with boost. I have the same truck, ran 10PSI stock, upped it to 12PSI with my boost controller then the other day I clamped...
After driving the truck some more I have to say the new turbo really is rather good! I'm not sure if the ECU has adjusted or the turbo is running in but the low RPM performance really has made the truck a lot more fun to drive. The lacklustre performance at low revs and terribly slow turbo spool...
Cheers GTS 👍 The improvement isn't earth shattering, but it's looking like it's definitely worth while. I may never know what a TD04 or similar would have been like. Probably miles better! Having said that, I think I'm going to end up in a good place performance-wise anyway, so I'm not too...
The new turbo has been in for a week and the truck drives very nicely with it  I'm not sure I'd say it spools hugely faster than the OEM CT20 but it definitely does give a bit more pick up in the low RPMs. Getting into third gear when driving up steep hills from a stop is a bit more...
To cap this thread off I sent the turbo to a reputable local turbo servicing company as a precautionary measure realising it was far beyond my abilities to make a call myself. They got back to me once they'd pulled it apart to say it was a good thing I sent it to them as, in their opinion, there...
Thanks for that 👍 Are you able to give me any more info regards the speed controller? Maybe a photo of your setup? I'm in NZ and it doesn't look like these guys ship outside of NA but I will enquire. The more I think about this, the more I think I need one! There is a filter in the line to the...
I've always made sure to limit post-turbo EGTs to 1000F figuring that's on the conservative side. At highway speeds pre intercooler I would see 600-700F, big hill climb would be 1000F or higher if I didn't pull off throttle. Post intercooler I see 500-600F highway speeds, 800-900F hill climb...
Thanks for that GTS 👍 Inspired by your thread from many years ago. I appreciate the info on tuning too. I was hoping you'd chime in actually as I wanted to ask if you know anywhere I can buy one of the bleed valves? I'm keen to give a basic home tune a go.
I think I have the gist of how to go...
