The diff is back from my guy and I got it installed yesterday! Everything went smoothly, just have to finishing wiring the locker. I’m got a factory 80 series switch.
Wow thanks for the offer, that is super cool of you. I’m going to pass though. My brother’s friend does lots of this type of work and is only charging me $300. Thanks a lot though.
Yeah that’s what I was thinking. But this guys opinion is that it will bout stress elsewhere. It seems better to break a cv than a diff in the middle of nowhere.
I am also interested in the protection it provides by replacing the weak point of my 2 pinion diff. Or at least that’s my understanding.
This is a dedicated off road/ camping rig for me. I have full skids, rock sliders, front/rear steak bumpers, etc.
Any more opinions on this? I shattered the front diff ring gear on my 1999 LC (2 pinion) and have the factory rear locker. I’m on 33s, not regearing for 35s or anything. But I am contemplating a front e-locker.
The guy that’s rebuilding my diff says he wouldn’t put in a front locker, that...
What did you end up doing? 1999 here in the same boat with a broken diff. I was originally set on 4.88 and a front locker. Not really sure about upgrading to 35s so now I’m considering just the front locker. My 100 is a dedicated adventure rig.
I don’t have a front locker. I was in sand and either did it by spinning the front wheels and catching traction on one side where I stacked rocks, or by trying to rock it by fogging forward and reverse too quickly. (I think)
