Builds Broski's Adventure Rig build thread

FYI you can use a telescoping rod to set toe with the tires on - I just eyeball the rear at somewhere 1/8 to 3/16 more than the rod set to hold itself between the tires to the front (as pictured). I don’t worry about exactness - I do think a bit more toe in helps with low caster at the taller...

‘08 Sequoia Tailgate Latch/Switch Not Working - Part Numbers or Experience With This Problem?

Ok more research says the OEM rubber is prone to melting into goo on the switch and that causes the issue. Amazon has a $10 part and finally found a good YouTube video. The broader issue of the key fob not working will likely need more diagnosis and this wouldn’t affect more than gumming up...

‘08 Sequoia Tailgate Latch/Switch Not Working - Part Numbers or Experience With This Problem?

The tailgate won’t operate by the tailgate latch, only if I press the button inside the cab. The previous owner was trying to diagnose the key fob not operating at all and he has maintenance records stating at one point the electric locks would only work from the tailgate, but didn’t want to...

What Did You Do with Your 80 This Weekend?

Yea when you get one right it becomes a pry it from my cold dead fingers affair. Prospectively there is not much rationale to keeping my 80 but I love her so that’s that.

What Did You Do with Your 80 This Weekend?

Put the new RCV fronts to work on Yinsang (fka Chinaman) Gulch. Snow and ice made some optional lines impossible and the ‘easy’ line…very interesting. My steering wheel had been just slightly cocked after replacing the tierod’s TREs - slightly bent my Slee heavy duty relay rod backing off an...

What Did You Do with Your 80 This Weekend?

It’s amazing the mistakes you can make even after decades of wrenching…my initial install had the retainer washer between the thrust washer and spindle nut. It will lock in place that way but is obviously not correct. Interestingly, I had clearance for the existing retainer screws by 1/16” or...

What Did You Do with Your 80 This Weekend?

Interesting, thanks for digging that up I do recall discussion about it now that you mentioned it. I read it wrong, it’s the head size of the bolt being too big that kit comes with a different style bolt now. Really appreciate the heads up .

Recommend me a SOFT 4" lift spring for LS swapped FZJ80!

    And some flexy (flexi?) bits.

Recommend me a SOFT 4" lift spring for LS swapped FZJ80!

I’ve run both the Dobinson’s 4” flexi setup and the 3.5” 144/145 VT and they are both excellent. I agree with most of what people have said above about the VT coils without a lot of weight because dual rate coils are designed so they ride in the transition zone between the dead coils and base...

    Shock madness

Exit Offroad appears to be Dobinsons US at this point and @crikeymike has been there for some time if I’m getting it right. They do seem to have it all organized.

    Shock madness

I’m sure they’d be fantastic. I’d be looking at the 6” version although not all 6” shocks are the same. Compressed length is key so I’m not either having to modify travel to protect the shock or leaving a ton of travel abandoned. And nothing over 12” travel, IMO there’s no reason to engineer...
