I think I have similar symptoms. rough idle on cold, lots of smoke, when engine warms up , idle is fine and smoke reduces. Could you tell me where to locate the temp sensor? and how did you check? thanks

Yes for the exhaust side it was ok, was able to put the blanking plates on. For the inlet side, I think the studs need to be removed as the threads are not long enough for a nut to tighten on the blanking plates. I will try the heat method as described above.

Hi did you ever solve the smoke problem? I have a kzj78 and it is also smoky on startup and revving when on idle.

Hi , I am removed the EGR from KZJ78 but not able to get the studs out on manifiold side to put blanking plates on. Any tips or advice on how to remove the studs (bolt with threads on both ends). thanks

Thanks. Took me a while but I was finally able to decipher the wire harness repair manual. Does it matter if I use tin plated vs gold plated version of wire? the local dealer has the gold one on hand.

**Update: Disconnected the connector from the ECU harness. It is reading 66.7 Ohms. A lot higher than the spec. prob due to damaged wire. Think I found the part number for the connector but not sure if I can source one here. will try Toyota.

I think that might be the best option. Take out pin and attach a longer wire with pin and put back in connector. Trying to source pins and wires here in Ireland.. another battle in itself.

I found this in one of the manuals but no luck with part number.

Ive tried searching online for that connector to the SPV side but zero luck and I cant even find the connector on its own or with a bit of wire. Would you or someone know what gauge wire it would be I I try solder some length to it.
