I just bought the two sets for my 2008 as it is also doing what this one did, but I guess I need some new curved water hose clamp pliers to get at the two on the firewall as they are underneath and my regular water pump pliers are not curved the right way to get in there. What did you use?

Most likely it is the clock-spring inside the steering column. When mine quit working, that was the cause and the dealer replaced it for about $175 with labor.

Well, there is a lot of information to support premium fuel, but I have been driving my 2008 Land Cruiser on regular gas for 233K miles, half of it while towing a trailer. So far so good. I doubt I will change my ways for the next quarter million miles. I will report on that next decade.
