    HZJ73 vs BJ74?

I was watching various vids on 73s & 74s, and noticed that the engine layout/etc. in the engine compartment of the 73 with a 1HZ seemed noticeably simpler than that of the 13BT.

    HZJ73 vs BJ74?

Makes sense as the 73 has electric windows, etc. That said, I prefer everything to be manual, minimal electronics. I would windup converting to manual hubs if possible (I intend to do that on my HIlux and my Dodge). I wouldn't worry much about the 13BT engine itself, not the core parts, as it...

    HZJ73 vs BJ74?

Either one? Makes sense. I am used to it. BTW - I noticed the 74 has manual locking hubs. I was under the impression that the 73 & 74 of this era had auto axle disconnect or hubs.

    HZJ73 vs BJ74?

I've been thinking of giving my '14 BMW X1 to my kids so that they will have a more dependable second car (they currently have a '11 Audi Q5 that is a money pit). I have been thinking about a Land Cruiser to replace the X1 as a "daily driver" (or more accurately, a bi-monthly driver as I only...

What Did You Do To Your Diesel Today (WDYDTYDT)

I was wrong. Not about the diameter, but about the rating; welding cable has a covering rating that is not meant to be exposed to solvents (like gasoline, diesel, etc.) Get the large diameter cables, with tinned copper conductor strands, and SGT or SGX rated insulator coverings.

    80 vs 70 series differences

I forgot to say that I am NOT a fan of shoehorning a Cummins 4BT (much less a 6BT) into any LC. They are just too heavy and the power curve is all wrong for a relatively light vehicle like the LC (my Dodge weighs 2X what most LCs weigh). The Cummins BT is best at 2K RPM, maybe a little more. The...

    80 vs 70 series differences

I think I wasn't forthcoming in why I am interested; I am thinking of giving my well worn (been in two accidents, one I was surprised the insurance didn't total it, the second was a fender bender and it got a few scrapes - plus it is approaching 125K miles) but still quite reliable X1 to my...

    80 vs 70 series differences

Hate to resurrect an old thread, but just had to reply and also ask a question or two. Just a disclaimer: before I went into electronics & then later software, I was a machinery tech (mostly diesel ICEs - first in the military, later working summers as at JD dealers while going to college on...

What Did You Do To Your Diesel Today (WDYDTYDT)

My goal is to reduce electronics/electrics in the drivetrain my LN172H, as much as possible - especially those that are critical to its operation.

I will have to look closely at the setup, but to reverse direction all you usually need is a bellcrank and something/somewhere to attach it. Bellcranks can also be used to add leverage at the cost of travel.

I plan to convert to a manual cable for both my Hilux and my Dodge Cummins

What Did You Do To Your Diesel Today (WDYDTYDT)

I’ve had good results from using the largest diameter (smallest gauge like 0 to 0000 AWG) pure copper (not copper plated aluminum) braided welding cable for battery & starter cables. The larger the cable, the less resistance and the more amperage flows to the starter. It makes a very noticeable...

    Extended fuel tank options

From FB MP, I recently picked up a locally made, steel 11+ gallon tank that goes where the spare tire is held underneath the bed. The manufacturer apparently no longer makes it. There is also water/fuel polymer tank that is roughly 10 gallons(?) that goes behind the front seats of an XCab/DCab...

    Ln107 Will not start

Huh. My 5L will start almost instantly in moderate warm temps - turn the key once I insert it and vroom. I wait for the light when it is cooler though - even so, it starts quickly. Has less than 90K miles on it.
