My '98 came with just the plug in the right rear area near the muffler. I bought an aftermarket converter box for $15. If you find everything to the plug working and the converter is bad, at least the replacement is dirt cheap.

I've had them on mine since March, and haven't had any issues with the suspension. For on-road driving, I really don't expect noticeable increased wear. Really, it is up to you whether or not the risk is worth the reward.

Your alternator is not charging. Since you have a new battery, it pretty much rules out a dead cell in the battery. Just like RND1 said, start looking at your alternator.

You could just squeeze the terminals tighter. On different vehicles, I've just used a pick and pushed on the open female spade ends to close them a little. Various companies do make female spades that will clip into the plastic in the fuse panel. Wurth is the first company that comes to mind.
