I suspected it might a neutral sensor since the truck doesn't have a clutch position sensor (so you can only start in neutral) but that's not the case. Yeah it's strange, looks like a push switch position sensor same as the reverse sensor behind it, no idea why the car would need to know what gear it's in other than reverse though. Once I get the shifter arms in I'll check when it's positive and report back
