Head Gasket Failure - Why K Seal worked FJ60

Yeah for sure. I’m daily driving my 60 and I’m planning on a desmog and head pull to the machine shop when I get another vehicle. Burning oil and I bet it is mostly valve seals. I’ll post pics when I pull the head to show what the sealer did and the health of the gasket overall.

Head Gasket Failure - Why K Seal worked FJ60

Warning: this will trigger most mechanics. Using head gasket fix is risky and can cause other issues. I caught my head gasket problem very quickly and a bottle of K Seal has fixed the issue for now. Here is why it worked and when a gasket sealer is not a bad idea to try: I had a very small...

    FJ60 AC Refresh Tips / R-134a

Haven’t been active on here in a bit. I don’t have any pictures of the connections around the evaporator box. My first guess would be the AC switch is bad. Maybe check to see if you are getting voltage to the ac amp when you hit the ac on switch and you are hearing an audible click. Also your...

Throwout bearing replacement worth it? 86 FJ60.

I already have a clutch kit that I completely forgot about in storage so that can be taken care of. I might just need to take an extra day off work to give me three full days. Going to go ahead and buy a new rear main seal just in case. Maybe contact the previous owner to see if that has been...

Throwout bearing replacement worth it? 86 FJ60.

That’s exactly what I’m worried about. A snag. Redid my whole AC system last year and that was a great example of the unexpected.

Throwout bearing replacement worth it? 86 FJ60.

Yeah when I bring free play back in the squeal comes back. If the free play is set to what FSM calls for it squeals. Springs are all good around the clutch pedal. I have played with that a lot. I can decrease to no free play and it disappears but the clutch isn’t happy like that. So I pretty...

Throwout bearing replacement worth it? 86 FJ60.

I have what I have diagnosed to be a chirping throwout bearing. Sounds like a squeaky hinge being moved really fast lol I have tried to adjust this thing multiple times at the pedal but when I get the chirping to go away my clutch will slip under load. With it being a later clutch style there is...

    Upgrade or replace gauge/instrument lights?

This is the color and intensity of the lights bought on Amazon linked above with the original condoms on. Since the bulbs are rated 6000k you get a more blue look to them. I like the color. if you found a similar shape with a lower color temp rating it would be more green. This is with the...

Voltage Drop - common ground or power wire issues?

That will help charging a ton. I would definitely replace both wires coming off the alternator and splice in as close to the battery as you can on one and as close as you can to the harness on the other wire. You can check voltage on the fuses also in the fuse box by putting your lead on the...

Voltage Drop - common ground or power wire issues?

Before you throw anymore parts at it check your voltage output from the alternator. Take a meter and read your voltage on the post on the back of the alternator. It should higher than 13V. Then check your voltage at the battery terminal. Compare those two to see the voltage drop from the alt to...

Voltage Drop - common ground or power wire issues?

The FJ harness does suck but getting the health of the charge circuit right between the alternator and battery does wonders. I read 14.2 volts @ 1000 rpms and + on my voltage meter I installed in my cab. Get good battery connections, cables, good fusible links, and new wiring from the alternator...

    Upgrade or replace gauge/instrument lights?

I found some white LEDs that are the same dimensions as the OG incandescent bulbs. This allowed me to use the original green condoms to create a dimmer look and closer to original color. They will dim and the original covers tame that bright LED look that just floods the gauges with light...

    FJ60 AC Refresh Tips / R-134a

I just did a full refresh of my AC system in the 86 FJ0. It was hell because I had never done AC work before other than topping off Freon. Maybe this will save somebody from the problems I came across. This is for those wanting to vacuum down and fill with Freon. I wouldn’t suggest you fill...
