Location for 1978 FJ40 Transmission / TCase Drain and fill locations

I just did this on my fj40 and before I started I purchased new fill and drain plugs along with crush washers from Cruiser Teq. I needed an impact driver to loosen the drain plugs. If you’re changing the oil, you should make sure you have correct on hand — for me GL-4 gear oil.

    Bad faith?

I have bought way too many parts from sellers on this site and never had a problem—always used PayPal. I guess if you’re buying from someone who doesn’t have much of a presence on the site, more caution is warranted. What is the suggested alternative to PayPal if you’re concerned about a...

    Bad faith?

I would suggest posting pictures of his truck and then connecting with the local clubs in the area — they may know the truck rather than a name.

What have you done to your Land Cruiser this week?

Rather than a timing light— I say buy a cheap carburetor online and slap it on and then you know if it’s the carb. Useful to have when you’re rebuilding your existing carburetor— if needed.

Engine backfires at decel and stop, almost dies at stop... need help figuring out what this could be.

Good advice so far — I was stumped for a while with a similar issue - checked for vacuum leaks and while leaning into engine bay feeling around I put some weight on the carb and the idle changed— carb mounting bolts were loose.

    Engine Compartment Cooling

When I was running a V8 (with electric fan), I upgraded the radiator, put the mechanical fan back with a shroud and put an upgraded water pump (was supposed to increase flow) and did the thermostat— no longer ran hot, which it only did on the hottest days. Wasn’t running headers. My problem was...

    1968 FJ40 Build

Looks like a fun build to watch—I converted my 67 FJ40 from a V8 to an 1985 2F 4 speed from a FJ60. Really like way it performs. I applaud your plan to keep it original — good luck!

Where Have you Driven Your 40-Series This Week?

Interesting—I thought it would have been higher. Maybe if you counted visitors who don’t have accounts.

    Worth it??

Haven’t posted my fj40 up yet; but east coast NYC without rust, lots of upgrades would be 30k plus. It’s a 67, 4 wheel disc brakes all around, drive line form an 85 fj60 - engine & trans, new tires, dual fuel tanks and more. If interested, let me know and I can pull together more info.

    Parasitic battery drain test

My first question to myself when things like this happens is what did I touch just before the problem started! For next steps, I would get the battery tested. Also, I had Optima batteries for years and always had problems with dead or low charge. Finally bought the best battery I could from...

City Racer Rims and disc brakes

Thanks for this. Will be going to check on cost of powder coating rims and bib next weekend so I can decide between new rims or coating.

City Racer Rims and disc brakes

WOW - thanks for that. Powder coating it is then. I have decided to ask the forum before I do any mods that require an investment— too many pull the transmission or transfer case redos over the years— now I check and re check before I jump in 😀

City Racer Rims and disc brakes

Was thinking this, but haven’t gotten a quote on price. Trying to find the best path forward.

Clearance issue with 16“ rims — any concerns there? Running 2.5 inch lift.

City Racer Rims and disc brakes

I am running chrome wagon wheels from a fj60 that are pitted pretty bad — considering between powder coating or moving to rims from City Racer. My concern is whether the City Racer rims will clear discs without the need for spacers. Any one running with discs without grinding calipers or spacers?
