    No Spark

1970 FJ40 engine (original) was running real nice last week. Then one day it started to hesitate after it warmed up. It finally stalled and now won't start. Gas tank full - new fuel. Carb window shows fuel midway. Poured a bit of fuel into carb anyway but did not fire at all. Checked coil...

    SOLD '68-'71 FJ40 or '75-'78 BJ40

Hello Russell: I have a 1970 FJ40 restored as close to original as possible 3 years age. Fits your requirements except for the following: Has shiny new paint. No later model front axle (has original) no roll cage. Came from southern Alberta (just above Montana) dry desert conditions. All...

    Brakes again

Thanks. Wasn't sure if loctite was OK with brake fluid.

    Brakes again

Thank you. Checked them out - they suggest using a thread sealer, but they don't have any (backorder). What other thread sealer will work?

    Brakes again

Would you recommend them? Where did you get them? Cost? Stainless or regular?

    Brakes again

Thanks all for your questions and advice. Much appreciated. Brakes are adjusted. E brake works. I don't have a mityvac. Anyone replaced bleeder screws with speed bleeders? Any luck with them?

    Brakes again

Sorry about lack of info. It is a 1970 FJ40 manufactured in August 1970 with stock drum breaks. Front brakes working OK. Back breaks we can still turn wheels, but there is some resistance. Pedal fades to nothing. Got new wheel cylinders from CCOT. No pinched lines. Everything appears...

    Brakes again

Installed new wheel cylinders. Lines all good. Master cylinder is good (new) and we checked it - pedal firm. Front brakes are good, but got no back brakes. Have bled system twice. Is it possible that air is trapped in the top of the wheel cylinders? Any suggestions or comments welcome. Thanks

    Window Regulator

Got the usual problem - worn out drivers side window crank. Anybody out there know how to fix one of these (older style 1970) or know where I can buy a new one (or good used if such a thing exists). Thanks.

    Gas Tank Rattle

No updates. It's at the mechanic getting checked out for other miscellaneous glitches before I really start driving it. They might take a look at it. Will keep you posted. Thanks.

    Gas Tank Rattle

Thanks everyone for advice and comments. Interesting. rkymtnflyfisher - Ill let you know if it is a gremlin after my thorough investigation. Had the tank off previously and the only thing in there was the chain off the cap. No flex metal spout or anything like that. Never a dull moment on "mud".

    Gas Tank Rattle

Got the felt strips under the straps. Got the little pins that hold the strips in place bent in far enough that they don't touch the tank. Got the pads under the tank. Got the straps tight (even tightened them a bit more just in case). I think I have been fairly careful putting this back...

    Gas Tank Rattle

Yes. Lines are all tight and passenger seat is out. It is definitely the tank doing the rattling.

    Gas Tank Rattle

I don't know if the FJ40 tank has baffles or not. I removed the fuel sender float and then tapped on the top of the tank with my hand and the rattle was still there. It does not rattle when I shake the vehicle, just when I'm driving or the engine is idling, or I pound my fist on the tank...

    Gas Tank Rattle

I have pieces of padding under the tank and the straps are snug. (This is a complete restoration so everything was gone over.) The rattle is definitely coming from inside the tank.
