1999 Hilux Surf 4x4. Intercooled 1KZ-TE diesel. 122k miles. Asking $19,900.
Due to my lifestyle I have come to terms with the fact that I want 2 Toyota 4x4s but I should only have 1. So, I am keeping the Tacoma and selling the Surf.
This truck came from Japan so it does not have service records HOWEVER I have done as thorough a job as I can (with the help of local Toyota mechanics) to get a comprehensive a bill of health in its current state. Below is my honest assessment of the state of the truck starting with the good:
And the not so good:
This thing is ready for whatever build you want for it. Or just keep it clean and stock. It is simple, mechanical, powerful, and a joy to drive. It has an awesome analog feel that I love. I wish I could keep it and wheel it.
Located in the Florida Panhandle area. Can arrange shipment if desired. Photos below.

- 3.0L turbo diesel
- Factory intercooler
- Automatic transmission
- 4x4 with center locking differential
- Low range
- Dual 12v batteries
- Factory spare tire swing arm
- Cold A/C, hot heat
- Timing belt done 30k miles ago (has sticker)
- 31” Falken Rubitrek A/T tires
- Stock rims
- Inside is clean as can be
- Cloth blue-gray seats
- No oil consumption
- No coolant consumption (and flushed 5k miles ago)
- Original owners manual
And the not so good:
- Steering rack seep 2/10 severity
- Spots of surface rust on some parts of the frame
- May or may not have some play in the tie rods (one shop said yes, one shop said no)
- Rear shock mount bushings are worn
- Radio was replaced – left a single-din opening that I didn’t put anything else in yet
- HVAC control buttons are sticky (HVAC works fine)
- Will come without the roof towers or crossbars (factory rail grooves are still there so you can mount one if desired)
