I think you are all aware of my HG and misfire saga here.

https://forum.ih8mud.com/ca-socal-80s/444143-cruiser-head-update.html

Last thing John could check was the wiring harness. With some help from a shop he deals with close by that has more electronic diagnostics equipment, they narrowed it down to a ground wire between the injectors and the ECU.

Lo and behold, when they opened up the harness they found the tiniest of openings on the sheathing to the exact wire that was causing the problem. Fixed the wire, wrapped up the harness and per John she is purring like a kitten now! Wire issue was near the injectors, not behind the EGR where lots of other cruiserheads have had harness issues. Really have to wonder if the original shop pinched the harness somehow. We'll never know.

Headed down Friday am to pick her up...only to have her sit in the driveway for two weeks while I travel on business. :frown: That's ok. She'll be home after some great, great care, patience, tenacity and unflinching devotion to getting it right by John and his team. :bounce::clap::cheers::clap::bounce2:

Brent,
That is good to hear. Glad they finally figured it out.

Congrats!!!

Glad to hear it was finally resolved... Grrrrr... nothing worse then them pain in the rear e-Gremlins!!

Nice! Too bad you didn't buy my spare computer!

Hot diggitty! Right On!

OMFG! Picked her up this morning. To say, using John's words, that she purrs like a kitten and runs like a sewing machine has got to be the understatement of the century. I can't believe how smooth and quiet she is now. It's just unbelievable. I was speechless and had goosebumps when I started her up and poped the hood. Just incredible the work they did.

Offending injector wire was right where the pinched wire to the coolant temp sensor had been. All repaired, heat shield tape around the wiring harness at the EGR down pipe, the whole thing. Just a thing of beauty the work they did. I can only assume that those two wires had been damaged at the first shop given the misfire not starting until right after the original HG, but I'm not going to pursue it.

I'm just estatic right now.

...on to the shakey DS mirror now, get the Miata sold so I can pay for all this and then get new leather and a DS seat cushion. :D

Great news Brent! Congrats!!

Believe me, anything but stuff I can do myself is headed down to ST Trux. I'll take the day off or drive down with the :princess: and play golf somewhere in the SD area for the day while the work is done.

I just can't get over how smooth she is!

Better pic of the cracked head and magnificant heat tape job on the wiring harness when I return from Chile in a couple of weeks.

At least she's back where she belongs in the driveway! :bounce::bounce::bounce:

Glad to hear that you got the misfire done with. It's good to hear about SD TRUX, and their fine work. My 80 was maintained for a good portion of it's life by the PO, by SD TRUX. I need to go by there and pick up the service records.;)
