Posted this on Bluetribal's thread also, but starting a new thread also since Stan, his son Jeff and I plan on camping Saturday evening up in Sheep Canyon. It's the last available weekend either of us has before it closes for the summer.

Paste:
Mark,

Stan, his son Jeff and I are in. We were planning on going out the 18th for the weekend. It's about the only weekend both of us have open before Coyote Canyon closes on June 1. We don't have a lot planned as I've mentioned in our PM's. I wanted to go run Carrizo Canyon which is just south of Bow Willow. Depending on time, etc perhaps run out to the Old Carrizo Stage Coach station or up Seco del Diablo, down the drop and out Fish Creek past the wind caves...or not. We're wide open and don't want to get up Coyote too late. Just want to kick back and have a nice relaxing evening up there. Know you are just in for the day.

Would going down Chariot or Rodriguez from Banner outside Julian, hitting S2 down to Carrizo Canyon work? Thoughts? Carrizo Canyon is a fun litte 6 miles in and out. Nothing challenging at all and easily done if your friend in a Tundra comes along. Out at the end, the wooded train tressle is viewable, but not hikable - tried that a few years back.

Anyone else up for an evening at Sheep Canyon?

My buddy and I are planning a trip for that same day, but we have no clue on were to go.

How far is Anza from the LA area ?

I'm a maybe. Would you guys consider camping total primitive in Salvador Canyon? Less people and something new for you guys I think? It's the same distance from Borrego Springs just north at the fork in Collins Valley instead of south to Sheep Canyon. See map below.

As it is with all trips in So Cal it's not about the distance as much as what time of day you are traveling. Several of my friends always come out Friday night from Culver City and it's usually about five hours due to LA traffic. Actual distance from LAX to the Christmas Circle in Borrego Springs is only 158 miles and can be done in less than 3 1/2 hours without traffic.

Sweet looks like a good crew is building for this weekend! No reason we shouldn't all meet-up and do some wheeling. I am down for whatever trail except Coyote canyon, kinda over that one unless I was camping.

Oh wait I still have a birff job to finish before I can go and play.

Scott - we can certainly go explore Salvador - it's right there, especially if Sheep is crowded. I would like to hike into the canyon with the springs up there Sunday before we take off or time permitting.

The waterfalls I have hiked to in the area are in Sheep Canyon. Is this what you are referring to or are there actual springs I am not aware of? There are two waterfalls in Sheep, one is just a mile up the canyon in the north fork, the other is almost twice as far up in the south fork. Easy hike for our group.....well Stan may need a little oxygen.. Just kiddin' Stan.

Those are the ones I'm referring to Scott. All the times up there and have never explored them. Was looking at the map while watching the Masters yesterday afternoon and noticed that the Lost Valley Boy Scout camp is just about over the ridge from Sheep Canyon. Never noticed that!

Felt sorry for Kenny Perry. I so much wanted to see him win. As a person that naturally draws the ball, I know what it's like (not at their level of pressure) to squeeze that grip just a little to hard and overcook a draw into a full blown hook. I though Cabrera was done behind that tree on the first playoff hole. Congrats to him.

Count us out for this this weekend. Everyone wants to stay local, so were going to head up to the Frazier area.

No problem.

Right now this looks like me, Stan/Jeff and Scott. Harry is out and it looks like Mark won't be done with his birfs to play on his BD.

Ok - haven't finalized anything yet. You'd mentioned wanting to do Rodriguez Canyon and that sounds like fun.

Tentative plan - meet in Julian at XXX time. Stan, Scott and I will probably meet locally in south OC before driving out to Julian if that's what we do. Run down Rodriguez to S2. S2 to Carizzo Canyon and run it. Lunch either at the end of Rodriquez or Carizzo depending on time.

From there pretty open. We can either run Seco Del Diablo and out past the wind caves if we want, do a quick in and out to the old Carizzo stage coach stop which is just on the other side of S2 at Carizzo, or just head back up S2 and into Borrego Springs, gas up and head into Coyote Canyon. Lots of options depending on what the group wants to do.

Only real purpose of this trip is to hit Coyote Canyon before it closes on 6.1. This is the only open weekend either Stan or I had between now and then. Almost leaning toward just hitting Coyote after Carizzo to smell the flowers on the way up and not try to cram to much into one day. Diablo or the stage coach stop would add a good hour or two depending on how much exploring (getting lost) we do.

Scott,

You still in? Didn't hear back from you last night or so far today.

I think i just saw Scott at El Pollo Loco in Anaheim when i left work at 5. Scott?

Negative, wasn't me. Just got back from BJ's Pizza on the Balboa Peninsula. Since we're hijacking threads here... :p... as happy as you might be about getting the 80 back I was looking forward to seeing the SMB. Oh well, never seen your 80 or the trailer either so that will be cool. Have a safe drive up and back!
