I'm still in!

Just got the GPS file, I'll start playing with it tonight.

Note to self: start checking cold weather gear.

Thanks Kevin for putting this together!:beer:

I'm still in as well!

Go ahead and send me the GPS file as well Kevin. I don't know if I'll be able to use it as I haven't had good luck with GPS files, but we'll see. I have Topo 2008 but it doesnt have any detailed info for Mexico. Stevef66@gmail.com.

Is it safe to assume that there will or can be a gas stop on the last leg home as well?

Lastly, here's the best way to conquer the cold: ( well, the Mad Bomber and a bottle of Captain Morgan:D)

I'm still in, I just need to pick up a CB.

Thinking I will bring my dutch oven to cook up a nice dish for the potluck.

I was thinking of pre making some chili and just warming it up in my dutch oven. I usually cook it for about 8 hours and that would be a little impractical on the trail.

What do you have in mind ?

Thanks for chiming in guys, this is going to be an awesome trip!

GPS file has been sent to those requesting it! :D

Yes, several!

There is one right off of the trail on our way back as soon as we get on Mex 1 as well

I have several recipes I can do which take between 1.5 - 3 hours I have a meat dish which is soaked in beer and a few special spices that is pretty good or if there are to many meat dishes I can make scalloped potatoes that kick butte. I am also going to do a peach cobbler that is super easy.

Trail Food

Kevin-

Hope we can make a pitstop at a roadside taco vendor? Anything available on these trails?

Potluck Dinner-

I'll bring some hot Italian sausage for hors d'oeuvres, and a salad for dinner.

As far as Saturday morning breakfast, I can make some breakfast burritos for everyone to keep it simple or we can all fend for ourselves if that's preferrable? Let me know.

Scott

A note for you...

Kevin, I am sure you know this... But the road leading back out to Mex 1 from San Pedro Martir is VERY steep in places. So, make sure your brakes are in good condition, and possibly even shift down for the grade.

Have a good trip!

Thanks Robb

You going to be joining us or what? :D

A couple questions Kevin:

1. What will the fire/wood situation be? Will we procure wood there or bring it with us?

2. How much insurance is normal? The premium doesn't go up much with increased coverage so I'm thinking about $24K worth which runs about $75 from AAA.

I also think we should get an idea of which supplies each of us can or will bring. I usually bring everything but the kitchen sink because I want to be prepared and don't know what others are bringing. However, I don't want to bring more than is necessary. Here are some ideas:
  1. Stoves
  2. Cookware
  3. BBQ's
  4. Tables
  5. Lanterns
  6. Tunes
  7. Tent(s)
I have and can bring any of the above but we should spread it out a little ( so the dogs don't have to ride on the roof:D)

I'll share my table, stove, lantern but no way am I sharing my tent.

I'm bringing all of the above except I'll be bringing a small Weber Hibachi instead of the BBQ. You can use anything you need.

For those of you who like to gamble, I'll be bringing my cards and chips. Texas hold'em, no limit, winner takes all. Minimum buy in $25 and the winner must agree to donate 50% of the final pot to the offroad charity the group chooses.

I always find it easier to bring as much wood with us as we can. The folks that drive around selling it up there usually have the crappy stuff that burns wayyyyy to fast and its not cheap! I will probably bring at least 1 or 2 small grocery store size bundles! The more the merrier on firewood!

2. How much insurance is normal? The premium doesn't go up much with increased coverage so I'm thinking about $24K worth which runs about $75 from AAA.

Thats a personal decision, i always get only the basic, but i am a cheapass! HA!

Very Good Idea!!!

I travel super light and generally dont do much cooking if the misses isnt with me because i hate cleaning! :)

I will bring the following to share

-Lantern
-BBQ (you clean it if used) :D
-Stove (you clean it if used) :D
-Steak tips for the potluck saturday night
-Hot links, cheese and buns for Friday night

I am getting more and more stoked on this!

Also, if by some weird chance, we can find a good camp area up near Mikes, we will move to another location.

I am researching plan B's now just in case!

THanks
