Threw this vinyl hood black-out on my 4runner today. Worked with Trevor (Isotel here on Mud) from Crawlorado.com to get it made up. He hadn't done any for the 3rd Gen at all yet so this was the first. I think it needs to be a few inches longer, possibly down to where the hood contoured lines start. Could possibly be a slight bit wider as well perhaps... I like it though.

They currently have them available for a few other vehicles as well. I had one from them on my old 80 series Cruiser.

Hood blackout decal thread that started it all.

I like it.

I will easily admit that I pretty much just think the blacked-out hoods look frikkin awesome. However I do have sensitive eyes and I am stoked on how this is going to work out.

!) Before: Glare. (~3.00pm, driving east)
2) After: What glare? (~5:30pm, driving south)

(Ya, I know its different angles from the sun, but you can get the idea I think.)

I like it too! Although I'm a little conflicted with you following school buses around :flipoff2:

Flatland ..thanks for the laugh! I'm sure theferg chose a school bus to illustrate what a city bus wouldn't offer:hhmm:

At any rate I like it..matches all the flat black parts on your runner..sliders,snorkel, flares, bumpers and so on.. Always liked this rig!

wow that looks nice and original dude... do they have a mock up of one with a hood scoop? i love my hood scoop too much to trade it for anything else.

I Can Pattern one for a hood scoop! shoot me a PM if your intrested!

Glad you like it Freg, And im Deffinatly willing to make some changes and send you a new one if you wish!

This is a very cool idea. I'd considered just painting my hood black - but this is a much better option! What about tinkering with different cuts rather than just a square to add some interest? "The Punisher" skull theme comes to mind. With some creativity I'm sure someone could come up with an awesome looking theme for their truck - or post if you already have! Would love to see that.

Adam, did you ever hear anything from Isotel on a Tacoma hood black-out?--I'm going to need one for my Tacoma now as well...

I can send him an email and see what he's thinking.

Got your PM. I'd like to see what you come up with for the shape etc. on the Tacoma. I may be different than some, but I don't want one that covers the whole center section down to the front of the hood. I like them a little shorter. I like how the 4Runner one turned out on Ferg's old rig, but even a bit shorter than that would be alright with me on a Tacoma one.

I'm interested, too. Another Tacoma owner...

Freg, BTW Thanks for those photos of the School bus! These are great at showing the functionlity of the blackouts!

Im going to use them on my site, Unless you have an issue with that.

Ok, These are the dimensions that i think will look good on the tacomas!

This will make the Front of the decal about 5" away from the Front of the hood.

The Decal will sit on top of the body line on the sides, and Overlap 1/2" on the rear, You can either Trim this off, or Fold it over.

unless anyone has any issues or suggestions to this, i will cut one out and test fit it!

Your drawing says 2ng gen Tacoma, but I thought everyone in this thread was asking for the 1st gen? Either way, I am very interested in one for my 04 Taco. Looking forward to pics

Also, how long can we expect this material to last in the harsh weather and sun seen in Colorado? Did you ever get any feedback about how it ages; scratches, fading?
