Ok well I think this time I need to do things a little differently. Normally I just got ahead and go with an idea and just deal with the hiccups along the way. I want to do it a little differently this time. And seeing all the new drawer threads up got me to thinking. So I did a really basic sketch of what I am currently thinking about doing and then get feedback and then design accordingly BEFORE I actually make them. Then the idea is to make the 3D drawing available for everyone to use WITH dimensions to make life easier. This will also help my build thread as well.

Soo tear it apart so that I may build it back up again to overkill perfection.

Hmmm, the one thing that I see right off the bat is the lowered engle fridge. Personally, I would prefer a completely flat top, so i could take the fridge out and make it into a completely flat sleeping surface for two (and same height as folded-down 2nd row seats.)

Piano-hinged tops for the side-compartment access?

All piano hinges, looking into Continuous Titanium Hinges. I am going with the engel inside because my plan is RTT on a darn INTI rack!!!

I was going to make a small platform to remove the engel if not needed.

suggestions/questions

  • aluminum
  • the space next to fridge slide (what will be here? seems to be wasted) maybe put water storage there?
  • Air tank - what holds it in place? will it be deleted when OBA is completed?
  • tie down points on top
  • how will it mount to floor
  • i can't read the depth are you removing the second row seats?
  • route an air line to rear face from OBA
  • i think the height is 22" can't tell, if so are you not planning on accessing the side panels?

The small drawer is foam core. "The screwdriver goes there!"

The orange Pelican is the EMT kit.

I was considering water storage but I found a cool bladder type that will be hidden. I also have ordered WagonGear's tailgate door so I don't have to store everything in the drawers.

The space in front of the smaller drawer will be a separate storage bin.

• Aluminum no. I have to do it in wood because I need to be able to do this myself. I at least have some wood working tools so it should be easier. I do not know the first thing about metal.
• Space next to fridge will actually be a waterproof plastic bin with a drawer front. This is where I will be storing all vehicle liquids.
• The CO2 tank will be mounted from the inside. It will stay even though I am adding the York. I like the redundancy.
• I am considering J-track instead of fixed tie-downs.
• It will be mounted to the floor SANS carpeting and WITH Line-X to the factory hold downs.
• The depth goes directly to the second row seats. I will be angling it to the seats although my rendering doesn't show it yet.
• My air line will actually be on the bumper itself.
• The height, as of right now, is 12". But I will be changing that I'm sure. The idea is to have full access to all side panels. I will show all the door openings on the next render.

So the CO2 tank well fits your standard Champagne bucket?

I'm subscribed!

That's the plan :p

Trying to think of ways of pulling double duty for as much as I can.

Looks nice to me too. :) Keep it up, I need to build somethign like this when I have time in the future.

Very nice, I like the engel being in a lowered position. My wife is only 5'1", so the higher it gets, the less she will like it.

WOW. Looks awesome! I'll be building some drawers for the 100 series real soon and this gives me some great ideas. Thanks!

This is very nice. I especially like the slim drawer for the tools.

Looks like plenty of space on each side for misc. items. A good place to mount an HF radio, water pump. Perhaps a spot for all the various battery chargers for all the gadgets we all use on trips.

Eventually I want to build something like this. I like the idea of aluminum as well.

I like it ... well thought out.

IMO, you are maximizing space but having done something similar it seems a bit tight around the fridge. It looks as though the drawers are each using half the space and if so I'm not sure you can get the space for that small storage area next to the fridge.
IIRC there is only 1-1 1/2" of extra space on either side of my slide (the drawers each using 1/2 of the available unit width). I also like to make sure there is plenty of room for air circulation to the fridge.

I'll be watching you to see how it goes .....I already have version 3 planned for mine :D

you may prefer a different latch on the drawers... something that cams or otherwise compresses to keep the drawers from shifting/rattling

Hehe, you are right but I couldnt find a 3D model for it :p

I will put some more time into this in a bit and re-upload new images. I got the size specs for the engel I am getting plus I need to add the slider for it.

didn't see someone ask, but what's the void in the front (behind the seats) by the air tank, and what's the piece on the driver's side front corner near the speaker?

The void is going to be storage but I didnt finish it before making the images. The remaining space behind the drawer and to the right of the void will be a closed in air space for the woofer.

The space near the speaker is a small book shelf. I wanted them easily handy yet still protected by them selves and not floating around with all the other stuff.
