Following Codyrx7's lead I bit the bullet and got some big ass military tires also. A fellow member on here Ken (Kenso) installed a bunch of stuff on my rig Saturday at his own shop. 6 inch springs, shocks, adj. panhards, brake lines, etc... Got the tires mounted yesterday. Ride is real good, only issue is the steering is pretty squirrely.

looks good. What did you do for castor? still running stock gears ? how is the acceleration?
he said the steering is real squirley, so i bet he didn't do anything for caster

I think I am next in line to buy a set of those tires. They look to be pretty decent tires for the price and I am sure they are more strong enough to take the abuse

Acceleration was real surprising, not much different, but also I live by the beach so everything is flat. Im sure if I was going uphill it would be noticeable. Stock gears, no caster correction yet, but I will be getting some more Slee stuff in my future...
Just for the record, not bashing the tires at all cause i want a set too....but i'm scared that i would break birfields and axles as soon as i went off road and had to give a little skinny!
my biggest concern would be having to cross any mud. they dont look like they would do well in the stuff. not that I look for it but sometimes you have no choice but to go thru it. nothing a little grooving wouldnt take care of.

Looks good with the tires mounted! Some serious ground clearance going on there. I know who I'm calling if I ever get stuck..
They LOOK good but that's about it. Great for the mall but suck when it comes to real offroading.
I hate to be this guy again, but I am just not a fan of these 80's on 40's and above....I think they just look silly and look like the douche bags in the big lifted Chevy's and Fords...mainly for showing off balls but that's about it.
TiredIron has, to me, the correct way of installing really big tires and not making the truck look silly.

the military spec tires are built for HEAVY vehicles. Hard rubber compounds, steel belts all the way around, etc. I researched these for a long time and went with Iroks. The sidewall on these tires won't really flex at moderately low pressures, and the compounds are not nearly as soft as other offroad centric tires. I am sure for looks, occassional wheeling, etc they would be fine, but if you take a tire that weighs in at over 100 lbs per, that big, that compound, throw it in rocks on stock steering, axles, etc you will be hearing crunching noises soon...and still not get over the rock.

The main reason for doing this to my truck was for driving on the beach and the occasional romp in the mud. Where I live there are no rocks or any "wheeling" spots. Closest is Uwharrie about 3 hours away. I completely understand that this thing is almost useless if I wheeled it like the rest of yall, I just love a Toyota with oversized tires.

Took the words right out of my mouth, I restore military vehicles (Tanks, APCs, trucks, Jeeps, you name it) as a hobby and have had tons of these tires. I tried them on civilian vehicles with very poor results. I once had a set on a Volvo 6X6, all three axles were locked and I got it stuck in 2" of mud. Like Dan said they are made for very heavy cargo trucks and APCs that mostly run on hard packed surfaces.
I dare to say I could take an 80 with 33" MTs more places than you can the XML equipped 80s.
