Great mod. One , 15 minute deal that gives complete versatility to the diff lock settings.

Can't go wrong. I've already put it to use.

yes, a great mod. Except when the :princess: gets stuck and Low doesn't help. Of course, the '92 is officially hers and the mod doesn't work on those...

You are welcome.....;)

Locking the rear diff in high-range should have been a factory setting! I used it all the time with a DIY e-locker I had in another truck.

What would we do without Dan, huh?!

Is there some sort of pin 7 mod mod where I can get my CDL to turn off while in Low on my 92?

It would prove helpful on switchbacks and when trying to turn around on trail in ruts or 2' deep snow. The tight steering bindage from the CDL is easily transfered to spinning tires on the snow with my front and rear diffs being open.

I had trouble last wknd trying to turn a 180* without chains. I kept up with the group but was the only one out running Guanella Pass without lockers and chains on all four.:crybaby:

I am thinking the answer is no ???

That's your mod? I stole it from Slee, where there were pictures and all. Oh yes, sez right there: "Dan Busey and Spencer Bybee". Wait, are those *your* hands in the pics? All hail CDan! CDan for Emperor!

Wait, pin 7 mod allows rear diff lock in high range too?

I thought there was much more complications with freeing up the f/r diff locks?

You can have the rear diff lock with or without the pin 7 mod in high also.

No, not really any complications. I ran my rear locked ALL day today out at Little Sahara sand dunes without any complications.

F/R are still subject to the 5MPH limit of course, but as long as the center is locked, you can engage R or F/R in high. No problems!

I've been over the '5 mph limit' numerous times, don't think that there will be any consequences to this action either.

Once engaged, of course. Or do yours (F/R) engage at highway speed?

I don't know if they'll engage at highway speed and don't want to find out either:D Yes, I meant once engaged, if that wasn't understood.

the CDL switch is the part that allows R/F locks to engage in high range. front and rear lockers require the center to be locked, without the switch you have to be in low for the center to lock and therefore have to be in low to lock the R/F lockers/

all the pin-7 mod does is stop auto locking in low

I have the CDL swithch but don't have R/F lockers (bummer!!). Since I can lock my Center diff when am in High and Center diff will be automatically locked when in Low, I take it that the pin-7 mod does not apply to my case, am I right?

Or should I still include pin-7 mod in my long list of LC-weekend projects? What benefit would I get?

Thanks,

Podiev

well since you have the CDL switch currently your options are 3

high CDL open
high CDL locked
Low CDL locked

doing the Pin 7 mod will give you a fourth option

Low CDL open, gives you low with more maneuverability when the CDL is not needed, also allows you to use low on pavement without worrying about drive line windup (manuverign trailers and alike is a good example)

but the most important reason to do the Pin 7 mod is because it is easy and makes the 80 operate how it should have in the first place.

EDIT not sure about the CDL operation on a 1990 or if you even have a pin 7

Thanks RavenTai - I'll check this out and probably do the pin-7 mod when I work on that area of the LC. At least even if I don't have lockers, I can have 4 options available. I still have a gazillion things to do on the LC and am doing it bit by bit (PMs first, exterior, underbody, then I'll do the interiors).

It wouldn't hurt to make sure that everyone who drives the cruiser knows how the CDL & 7 pin mod. works.

My wife recently wrecked our cruiser, ended up backwards in a very muddy (and fairly steep) ditch.

She knew (for added traction) she was supposed to do "something", but didn't remember exactly what.

To my surprise...she managed to drive it out (in high range and in normal settings), but it would have been much easier if she had remembered to put it in low range and engage the CDL.

OK, I am not sure why I can't grasp this 7 pin thing. This fourth option is something I haven't read yet. You can un-lock the CDL when in low? So how does this work? You put it in Lo and push the CDL button and bingo it un-locks?
Oh and I have to get my CDL switch from either Slee or a Hazard Tercell button at the junk yard before I can do this pin 7 mod correct.
