Done! Well almost- Left to do-can basket and cooler basket and a chrome treadplate trim piece to make it look pretty.

What was I looking to do- Well, working on the cruiser is a real joy and I want to keep it around for a long time, so time for some stout bumpers. I have seen lots of great ideas and they overall bumper design has come a long way from SROR first ones a few years back. I have kept hearing the same complaints-
Dont like have to open the swing arms every time you wanted to get into the back.
Kaymar is to bulky
You are stuck with the attachments that you decide to put on the swing arms.
Cost
I am not a fan of the big red handle latches
I am not a fan of really skinny bananna hammock bumpers- I dont see a lot of huge rocks that I need to get over here where I take my truck.
Lack of rear quarter panel protection
So I tried to blend a high departure bumper with a a flush mounted system of removable attachments suited to what you want and so that I don't have to run around town looking like I am going on safari when I am only going to the Golden Corral Buffet. (My truck is my daily driver) And by reducing the amout of welding - reduce the cost.
Using a 3/16 sheet I had it bent 5 times. I have used Iron Pig spindles and De-Sta-Co 7500lb latches. I am building one arm for a tire and the other for a ladder. You would be able to pick either side for attachments as the footings are universal. Off the ladder you will be able to carry fuel and water cans. Or a cooler, or a big ole basket. A bike rack and awing is the works as is a hammock seat that can be used with the arms open. Lots of stuff for camping etc.
In the pics the swing arms are just 3 inch channel to give you an idea what I am doing- I am using 3/16 2x3X 22 tube. Latches will be mounted to plates that are welded to the arms and the latch will be recessed and mount horizontal to keep them out of the way. 2x3x11 channel will be used for the footings and mounted with 1/2 inch grade 8 bolts. When I am done camping I just remove the attachments and replace the bolts into arms, put the tire carrier etc in the garage. The rest of the time I can leave arms on and use the tail gate normally
I am redoing the wings to make them a little more attactive and extending panel protection about 3/4 of the way to the mud flap.
I also am going to add a 2.5 inch receiver-
