Ok guys,
Making decent progress on my 64 at the body shop. I would love to get the tub and bodywork in color soon.

One minor glitch, I do not know what color to paint it.

I WANT this green color:

But I can't seem to get consensus that this is spring green or not, and even more importantly how I would go about getting the mixture.

Any ideas? I want to get a sample mixed up and see what this looks like. How can I find the paint mixture for Spring Green? I would do a typical 2 stage with a clear (modern).

Help, advice and a SOLUTION much appreciated.

thanks,
Chris.

You can go to a paint store and look through the paint chips. Any paint store that has been around awhile. Will have paint chips way back when. Also they may be willing to mix a small batch and let you spray it out. Cool Color choice.

i think it is sulfer yellow ( it is more green than yellow )

Ooo, Destin, I like that sulfer yellow. I just had some spring green and fashion green mixed up today and will spray some cardboard tomorrow if I get a chance. The spring green doesnt have enough gray in it, and the fashion green is pretty dark.

Do you think that sulfur yellow is a 1964 color?

THANKS.

The seminole red was a perfect match for what was on my rig :D

have a small amount mixed and spray it on some metal :D

Post up some photos too!

BTW, the sulfur yellow color looks awesome, i love the old cruiser colors, they have a great depth too them!

I was super stoked to find the original color to my rig :)
Has that vintage feel :)

The best test is to spray it though, you will know pretty quick if it is a dead on match :D

I love the old colors too. Hopefully the paint shop is open tomorrow morning.

BTW, your damned seminole red looks fricken BADA$$! Don't think that I havent coveted that color.

Stoked to see what that looks like on a test spray :D

It is gonna be awesome :D

Your rig is looking tip top by the way!
Super clean :)

Keep the photos coming :D

I change my answer...... Destin found it. It sure looks like "Sulfer" ... Man ! That is a great color!

Good on you guys for going the original stock colours that your 'Cruisers were born with. I kick myself from time to time for not doing the same.

Nebula Green seems to me an awful lot like what the U.S. Forest Service has been painting their trucks with for decades. Might be a suitable fallback.

Destin,
Although my PPG dealer was able to find spring green and fashion green (labeled 67 colors in system) the computer doesn't really have any of the early (pre 65) colors in it. Net is, I could not find sulfur yellow, by name, Toyota code or the PPG code.

My paint dealer will call PPG on Monday to check, but as a backup plan I had a question.

Do you physically posses that page above? If so, I would pay S&H round trip to do a color match. Cant do a color match from my iPhone ;-)

Leme know what you think.

Chris

Breathe green was also a green that was available on fj40s. Hard to tell apart from nebula green and spring green. Only available for a couple of years.

I do not have the physical page above sorry, even if we did it is 45 years old hehe, so not so awesome for color match.

They could not find the ppg for the color:

99156 ?

They used that 5 digit number to find my color...

Let me look at the brand of pain they used.
I can give you the number of the place that painted mine, maybe they have the name of the place they sourced their paint from.
