Ok.. This is probably going to be embarrassing. The windshield washer system on my FJ-40 doesn't work. Part of the problem was that the pump wasn't working. I had this fixed. Then the tubes weren't connected.

This is where we start to have real issues. Part of the problem is that I had the work done at Canadian Tire and they gave up on fixing it and still charged me money for the "work" they did.

The problem from what I understand is that the metal tube in the windshield must be clogged with crap. They tried blowing air through it and it didn't fix it. They tried snaking through a rubber tube to connect the nozzle to the rest of the system. This didn't work either. I don't think they spent much time at it.

They guy at Canadian Tire suggested that I simply use a bottle of water to rinse my windshield (no big deal eh?) I mean c'mon! This is brutal. I'm so mad right now!

I want it fixed! I'm not sure if it's possible to even fix it. Everything else works fine. IT's just this metal tube in the windshield. Is there room to fit another tube alongside it? Is there another option? I need this fixed. I don't like driving in winter weather without a practical way to clean the windshield. Has anyone here had this problem too?

Installed one of a friends 40 awhile back. Nice system and inexpensive to boot.

Some of the years have a nozzle in the center of the hood, i gave up on trying to find the lines to the upper part of the windsheild and ran a soft rubber hose from the pump to a nozzle for the center of the hood ( I believe from a 77) I ordered the part from my local toyota dealer. Once I tear down for repaint I will deal with the windsheild lines, for now it works and I can see.

Clogged windshield washer pipe isn't too uncommon apparently. There's a few threads on the subject. Mine hadn't worked since I got it, so when I went to fix it I looked around to see what others had done. Found out there's plenty of room for a second hose in there.

Some people said they were able to feed new hose up through the bottom of the windshield, but I couldn't get it to go around the corner when I tried (for like an hour :mad:). I ended up pulling the top loose and dropping the windshield to get better access. I tied a wire on the hose and pushed the wire up to the hole in the corne., Then I pushed a second wire in from the middle of the windshield. Once I had them both out the corner hole, I tied them together and pulled it the rest of the way through to the middle. Works good now.

ok.. I've got one of the overhead nozzles. ... But.. I also have a place on the hood where I might be able to put in one of those hood nozzles.

Right now I've got an ornamental nub (for lack of better word) where the hood nozzle would be. It serves no purpose except for looks.

Does anyone know if that can be popped out and I could put in one of those hood nozzles from CCOT?

It looks like it might be possible.
 
Apparently the "nub" is called a dummy nozzle. I think I have one of those. Can this be removed easily and replaced with a real spray nozzle?
 
I used a piece of 1/4" irrigation tubing that was stiff enough that you could push it. It went around the frame corner with little problem. Once I had snaked it to the middle of the top frame I could then pull the irrigation line. I attached the silicone tubing I wanted to install to the end of the stiff tubing in the glove box and pulled it through.
I also removed the dummy cap in the hood and installed the windshield sprayer from CCOT. I put a tee in the line by the pump and ran the same silicone tubing to the sprayer in the hood. They both work great and the pump has no trouble supplying washer fluid to both!

Yes, it can be popped out and replaced with the functioning nozzle. You will need to plumb the water line to it along the underside of the hood.

Great info! I had long been wondering if both hood and windshield washers could be run from the same washer pump. I think I might do that on my truck.
 
great idea......will have to do this on my 82, upper ones work fine(did have to fix the hose when I got it) but the more the better........the 100's have 2x 3 washers.....I like it

princess auto has a wiper kit for $14.00 it has every thing even the sprayer for the hood. the nice thing about it is it fists the factory mounting and plugs right in to the wiring clip. with no mods.
 
I had the same probl

I had the same problem (including the failed mechanics attempt) but didn't want aftermarket stuff I wanted it fixed. So I stuffed some wire through the piping and unclugged it. Works great now! Make sure you disconnect the nossel before testing otherwise you will blow all the remaining junk right into it.

Did you cut holes in the hood for that??
Mine had the dummy in the center bulge that I put in a real one. as stated before, available form your local dealer IIRC $15.

Hi, my FJ is all fibreglass, the bonnet did not have any holes for washers to start with.

The washers I bought actually have a thread & nut on them so it was a simple matter of drilling a round 11mm hole.

To register the vehicle you must have washers or else it fails its roadworthy here.
