Crack in Block-need help

I just found a crack in my block when we started to clean it up to reassemble. What do I do? Are there any options, or is replacement the only way to go? This sucks bc I just had the crank polished and it is perfect. New bearings are in and I was ready to put it back together. Not sure which position this is called but it is in the middle and closer to the back of the motor if that helps. Thanks

I would replace the block. It might hold up, but hell, F/2F blocks are cheap and easy to come by...

BTW, everything you have currently will still go back into the new block (unless the pistons are a different size..)

Howdy! The current edition of "Engine Builders" has a story about a new system for welding'repairing cast iron. I left my copy at work, otherwise I could give you contact info. It looks like a blow torch with a sprayer added on. Seems to work great. Don't know about the expense. Check it out at your local grocery store. John

I will post in the wanted section looking for a 2F block. Does it matter what year? Mine was out of a 78 FJ55. Any idea what the shipping would be from CA for your block? Thanks for the offer of the block, I may take you up on it if I can not find one.

If it made it out the gate . By the time I finish the resto the cracks might heal themselves. And if it never runs does it really matter. Someone send me a good block please and could you get it here overnight.

Go for a '79 or newer so you'll have the little nifty holes for P/S mounting......look for as dead 60 in your area.....

ok so I am learning hear. a 60 series has a 2f and they had p/s? funny, my fj55 that the motor came out of was definitely a 78 and had factory p/s. should have only been on 79's from what most have said. will i be able to re-use the inards from my motor even if i were to have to hone the replacement block or am I now looking at a total rebuild? this is getting worse every day. nothing has gone right with the "resealing" of the motor. it was running well before I touched it.

It was a ticking time bomb before you touched it...

late 78 is a 79.

It is possible taht you already had a new block..

Mace, not to beat a dead horse, I am just a newbie. When I find the block, what should I be looking for as to the condition and then if it is good, I will need to have it honed? Then will the insides of mine go into the newly honed block? Sorry for being slow, but I am learning. Thanks

Between the local cruiser club and Urban Cruisers, someone local should be able to scrounge up a block for you.

I believe that the crank set up changed in 85 so you need to make sure if you want to use your crank. The 85 -87 2f's have some center thrust washers that arent on 79 thru 84.

Ok, so I need a block between the years 79-84. But will an earlier 2F block work short of not having P/S holes drilled?

Mark, there is what looks like a good 77 2F block close to you in Winder; non running belongs to <codylabrador> Randy Meachem; if you are going to build it anyway, might be an option, just clean it up and install your goodies; tap it for the PS
MiniPigg has what sounds like a nice one out of a 77; he pulled it to do a Diesel conversion;
David Dearborn at Urban Land Cruisers has several 2Fs but it is very difficult to get him on the phone; best if you just go there in person.........good luck;
