*** It is a bit early but I'll note the early details for those who need to schedule vacation. ***

2011 Rubithon June 14th to 19th, 2011. Fathers day weekend.

- Gary Bjork Memorial Rubithon -

We will try to return to our standard format of committee awards and entertainment Friday night, Dinner and Raffle Saturday.

***
We are discontinuing breakfast for good. No more breakfast.
We are editing the dinner menu to help improve it. And you already thought it was good!
Ross has some plans to enhance your dining experience.

***
NOTE: as of 12/2/10, we are 120% of normal for Sierra snow pack.

***
New for 2011: We have formed a group with CalStar, the helicopter air ambulance. For $35 dollars, you can buy into this group using the name Rubithon and CalStar will pick any member of your family up and evacuate them to the nearest medical facility capable of receiving the air ship for one year (within their service territory). This will be included in the 2011 Premier Pack and available on the registration but must be received by 5/1 (so we can ensure you are signed up before Rubithon). A emergency trip out of Rubicon Springs will cost you about 10 to 15K. Tammy Larson of South Shore Crawlers has graciously offered to coordinate this effort and we will post more details for those interested. (Thank you Tammy!)

New for 2011: RC rock crawl Saturday for those interested. Chris Larson from the Mog Crew is coordinating. (this seems pretty fun during the Marlin Crawler Round Up so we are going to try it.)

***
Committee Leads and returning committee members: I am hoping you will return for another year of Rubithon abuse. :) Please contact Bill Jackson or myself to confirm your role. If you are new to Rubithon committee and want to help on trail committee, contact Bill Jackson. If you are not qualified for Trail Committee but want to help, contact me directly.

We will have need of a pre-event volunteer to make a (full size pick up load) trip from the Bay Area to South Lake Tahoe approx 1 week before the event... so you can volunteer to help even if you cannot actually attend the event. (phew, what kind of offer is that?)

***
I am hoping to have the web site updated for 2011 earlier than 2012. Lots of details to work out.

Finally, for those who knew, or attended Rubithon with Gary Bjork, please come on out and help make the 2011 memorial run a memorable one as we celebrate the life of Gary and the wonderful things he brought to TLCA and Rubithon.

Rubithon! Recalibrate why you joined TLCA!

Tony, better fly Nolen out or call in a favor with Jerod. IMO Jerod is the go to guy for this if he can make it.

Tony,

Do you think it would be possible to get a volunteer to shoot photo's and do a write up for Trails? Something we have been having a tough time with is stories and photos going up everywhere before Trails, which then makes them unusable for the club magazine. Hit me offline, if needed. Would be super cool to have someone do this, if possible.

Justin -- I've done two different articles on Rubithon that were published in Trails. The challenge is to do something "different" so it's not the same old thing. There was an article that someone else did this year as well. Always tough to get a new perspective on the same old event.

We should get together with Todd and figure out a different angle for this year.

How bout some interviews with guys that rarely post or even go online.
From a readers standpoint lets poll what we'd like to see if someone was sent with specific tasks/goals, I'll start:

More photos shot from a distance with explanations of where the trail is in photo
More carnage pics
Maybe a my Rubithon ride readers rig section type thing.

Tony,

Hi Justin...

Joel Moranton is one of my preferred photographers, and has helped us in the past.

and to date, Rubithon has had excellent Trails coverage always taking the different perspective... Ross has done articles, Ryan and Brenda Ramsey submitted a great article taken from their young sons perspective, and we would have had the 2010 article printed already but backed off to make room for our tribute to Gary Bjork.

and I can assure you, the pending article is from an angle I doubt we'll ever see again, thanks to Dave Thomas.

We also invite and encourage folks from the OHV mag world to attend, because getting Rubithon coverage outside Trails is where we pick up our new TLCA members. This can be a double edge sword as this is also where I get the calls from teh new J**p Liberty owners who want to attend.... :)

no way of getting around the photos and stories being sent before Trails published, but such is the information age we live in. Everyone fully realizes that any photo posted cannot be used in Trails and those posting usually have no intention of putting pen to paper. Having a volunteer to draft a story is not going to stop that from happening... but I fully understand your point.

Back to Rubithon -- Tony -- Will we see the same runs? New runs? Are we losing any runs? Will there be a buggy run again?

How will the changes at the beginning of the trail change travel times? Will we have more "straight through" runs?

Will we have smaller groups? Bigger groups? Same sized groups?

Excellent question... wish I had an excellent answer. :)

Our Trail committee volunteers will most likely impact our runs available. I am hoping Larry 'Yodaman' Kitihara continues with the Tuesday run for those who like to enter early, and ideally the LA Trail Crew will be back to lead the Wednesday morning run.

Of course Andy will be leading his wagon run on Wednesday and if no one steps up to lead an FJ Run, we will not have one. That is going to be a tough call, but I'll rely on my trail committee to determine the fate of FJ cruisers at Rubithon.

And I believe our Thursday runs are pretty solid but I always warn them they might find buck full and have to continue on into the springs.

I am always looking for Friday early volunteers and I believe Marlin will be back for Trails sweep.

Jimjob will most likely have his buggy run again although attendance was limitied last year.

And of course, back to our exit strategy for Sunday! Oh boy!

As noted, Trail committee folks please contact us and note your attendance... I will be making phone calls soon.

If I have to hike it, I'll be there....just entered the dates into my SWEET Rising Sun 2011 Calendar...can't wait!!

...and I got some REALLY sweet tee's in the mail recently too...those will be a must-wear item for the trip!! (I just wonder how the sender knew Heather wears a medium...hhmmm...)

As noted Woody, thank you for your ongoing and unwavering support of TLCA and Rubithon here on Mud. We are very appreciative, even if we forget to mention it or have a hard time articulating it, at times.

We are very hopeful we will have your presence at Rubithon in 2011.

Very much looking forward to this years Rubithon, My brother Dennis is planning to bring Gary's Cruiser "Night Light" in and we will both have our families and as of last night should be 100% participation from the Toys on the Rocks club.
