Smittybuilt compressor to 12V Cigarette Outlet (1 Viewer)

Thinking to convert the battery clips on my Smittybuilt compressor to a cigarette lighter plug and run from the rear 12V port on my LX470. I saw a cigarette lighter to Powerpole cable online and thought it would be nice to run the compressor from the rear.

I think the amp draw on your compressor is going to blow a fuse at best or melt wires at worst.

There is a small fusible link built in to the cigarette lighter that will open before the main fuse blows or the harness melts. That’s what’ll happen if you run the compressor from it, and it’ll take hours to figure out why the socket isn’t working anymore. Ask me how I know.

My Smitty compressor gets hot to the touch when running from the battery cables. I can only imagine what it would do to the lighter wiring.

+1 to blown fusible links being a pain to repair. Then if you have a 98-99 model with the early style fuse box, I think you lose the HVAC and Radio when one of the cig lighter fuses blow.
