Hi Guys. I have used your nice forum for info for awhile & now would appreciate some help. In 2000 I bought a '96 FJ80 from the son-in-law of a Toyota Dealership owner. It came with a RS3000 system installed, 2 key fobs & Manual. I bought an identical BAB237131-022 from Cruiser Dan last year because the originals were showing some wear. Both originals worked at one time but I never could get the new one programmed. Now, I can't get any to work.
I have searched all applicable threads & believe i'm following instructions. My ECU is located under drivers seat. I just tried to program passive alarm & believe it worked. My dash status indicator lights & I hear 3 clicks (not chirps). When I open the door before 15 second default delay the panic/horn blares. I then tried to program the remotes to no avail, all have new batteries today. My local dealer tried this morning also. Does anyone have an idea what I can try now?
Thanks
JT

Edit: Forgot to add while trying to program various ways I didn't see the lights flashing.

I just went out to try again, no luck. However, I noticed the fcc id on the ecu box was BAB237000-129. My key fobs are 237131-022. I don't know how this could matter as the 2 originals worked at one time.

By way of introduction, I don't off road unless my real estate job dictates. I do enjoy driving the Landcruiser & feel safe doing so. My vehicle is stock except for some high-filuting shocks & a diamond gloss paint protection application the previous owner had installed. He was president of an insurance company & his father in law owned the Toyota place. He said he didn't off road or tow so i'm pretty confident he maintained it well. He also Fedex'd me about 2 inches of maintenance info.

I play golf every day in the summer here in Arkansas & like all sports, well not soccer or hockey. If any of you want to talk Klipsch speakers, join us over at the Klipsch Forum. Again thank you for any help. I will post a few pics if I can figure out how.

Thank you for your reply. Those are the exact instructions from pg. 21 of the VIP RS3000 owners guide. In step 2 my status LED actually blinks for 5 seconds as opposed to being solidly lit. I don't hear any chirp/click I the headlights don't flash. I have no mechanical skills & this has me baffled.

When I try this procedure I am using a different fob than the one holding the key in the switch. Does it matter? I have tried all 3 at various times.

Introduction & RS3000 help

Bump.

I realize you guys are probably tired of answering questions about this topic but I haven't been successful in searching for a solution.

Thanks.

If some remotes worked and do not now work and they have new batteries, correctly inserted, and the LED's light, I suspect the controller or wiring harness. Any liquid spills under the driver's seat?

From the RS3000 manual. See the part at the bottom regarding erasing all codes. Maybe that will help.

Remote Control Programming

The RS3000 ECU can be programmed to be operated by as many as 4 remote controls. Additionally, the provided remote controls top and bottom buttons may be assigned to operate another 1998 or 1999 model vehicles RS3000 security system, and both buttons can be programmed to operate the system in one vehicle. To add or delete a remote control, you must access the RS3000 ECU (computer), location varies by vehicle and model.

To program (add) a remote control to the system:

1: Insert the key into the ignition switch and turn it to on.

2: Press and hold the ECU's programming switch for 3 seconds. The status monitors LED turns on for 5 seconds.
***You must perform the next step within 5 seconds***
3: Press and release a remote controls top or bottom button. Either button on your remote control can be programmed to operate the RS3000. The status monitors LED turns off. The piezo chirper chirps once. The exterior lights flash once.

4: Turn off the ignition. The ECU will now operate with the remote control just programmed.

Note: The factory preset operation is for the top button on both remote controls to operate your system; the bottom button is not programmed. To prevent accidental erasure of a remote controls code, we recommend that you program all your remote controls at the same time.

To erase all remote control codes from the system:

1: Insert key into the ignition switch, and turn it to on.

2: Press and hold the ECU programming switch for 3 seconds. The status monitors LED turns on for 5 seconds.
***You must perform the next step within 5 seconds***
3: Press and hold the ECUs programming switch for over 2 seconds again. The status monitors LED turns off, then flashes 3 times. The piezo chirper chirps 3 times and the exterior lights flash 3 times.

4: Turn off the ignition. The ECU has cleared all remote control codes. Until another remote control is programmed, the system will not work with any remote control.

No luck but thank you for your post. I think it erased the codes because after the 2 second push I heard 3 clicks. I'm not hearing chirps like I once did & the exterior lights did not flash at all. Looks like i'm in the market for an ECU unit. Where would I find one?
Thanks

Try programming with 1 door open, and if that doesn't work, try it with all doors closed.

All Toyota remotes from 90-94, 95, and the RS3000 type use the same programming. It took 3x to get my Lexus remote to finally program.

Also, hold the button on the remote down for about 3 seconds when prompted. Sometimes its just a simple matter of pressing the button way too fast and it doesn't register a signal.

Cody, I thought the extra hold on the button had worked but alas no. I'm to big to reach the unit with all doors closed, i'll throw the girlfriend back there.
Thanks

Arky,
It is very important to follow the instructions precisely. Do not assume and do not improvise. When the instructions say to switch the ignition to "On", that is exactly what it means. Same with all other steps.

Also, ignition ON is not ENGINE on.

Its just the ignition turned so the accessories come on.

Dealing with the same issue right now trying to program my LX450. I purchased an OEM remote fob from keylessride.com The instructions are exactly as above and I believe I've followed the steps exactly too. Tried with open door and all doors closed. I don't expect a chirp since that was spotty in the past. Lights are always on.

Anyone have any luck with this? Arky??

Thanks,
Rob

Our smaller 4runner brethren had the answer

4Runners.org - How to Reprogram a RS3000 Remote

The part I left out was turning the key to the off position before checking for results. The website above lays out the steps so any idiot can follow them. Thanks....
