How Deep To Cut ? (1 Viewer)

Iam in the middle of the cut and turn for a SOA on my 72 40. Can someone tell me hod deep to cut. I cannot see a line or any difference in the cut yet and seems like I should be deep enough. Thanks

1/4 inch.. you should see the line where the inner and outer tubes meet once you go deep enughf... i know where you are at, just keep truckin and it will all be cool!

if you screw up i have an axle housing i might be able to part ways with.

Ive cut just like the picture, down the center of the old weld. I did grind the old weld off. Seems like its close to 1/4'' and I cant see A seem. I cut 3/8'' from outer edge of weld. I might not be quite deep enough. I dont want to ruin my axle. Thanks for the info.

its possible you areent far enughf away from the weld

Whack the housing with a BFH several times, and the crack will magically appear.

Thanks for the input guys. I finished my cut and turn today. Wanting for the knuckle rebuild kit so I can put on disc brakes. Thanks,Kevin
