Hi all together!

We thought about sharing a few of our experiences and photos of our travels in Africa with a 1984 HJ47 Troop Carrier with you guys!

We left Germany about 8 months ago and started our African experience in Morocco. From there we traveled through Western Sahara, Mauritania, Senegal, The Gambia, Senegal, Guinea Bissau, Guinea Conakry, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Ivory Coast and Ghana to Togo.
The plan is to reach South Africa before returning home for some seasonal work and then flying back down to tackle East Africa.

For the first time in a while we are having some more or less reliable internet so we will start with sharing some photos from Europe and Morocco and then add more as we go if you guys are interested!

Feel free to shoot any questions at us that our blog might not answer.

Norbert's Adventures

Hope everybody enjoys seeing a 40s in action.

I don't know about anyone else, but I love seeing photos of 40s in explorer mode! You also appear to know your way around a camera, nice photos Bro! I'm looking forward to the next installment. Happy Trails!

I enjoy these travelogues, especially with 40 series in them. I get to see countries that I'll otherwise never get to see. Keep the pics and travels coming.

Amazing, thank you for sharing.

Did you get much use out of your Go Pro camera, how well did it work for you?

Your equipment list is extensive, you must have been loaded to the hilt.

Thanks for the feedback guys! I will update as often as the African internet will allow me to.

Actually we are not packed to the top with stuff. None of the rear windows are obstructed and we have the whole cargo area to sleep on in case of severe thunderstorms or need of keeping a low profile.

The GoPro has so far not been used as an action cam but we love to be able to stick it on the windscreen or front bumper to film beautiful drives. It is also fairly inconspicuous so you can get great footage when driving through a market or crossing a river on a handhauled ferry. A couple of spare batteries are essential though when using the wifi app. ;)

When we are back home for a while I will cut the footage together to a hopefully nice video clip and put it on Vimeo.

There is also a bunch of photos in our gallery on Norbert's Adventures if you don't want to wait for updates here.

We are leaving today for Benin and our first serious wildlife viewing in the Pendjari National Park in the north of the country.

We arrived late at Ouidah in Benin yesterday. Last night a big thunderstorm came through and flooded our roof top tent so we were sleeping in a swimming pool.
Drying out at the moment and will try to track down some reminders of the slave trade history here.

Wow thanks again for the uplifting responses. :)

Trying my best to capture the moments but am still very much at the beginning of learning my way around photography. What better place to practise than on travels with loads of photogenic opportunities though, eh?

Since the last entry we have driven north in Benin and got an insight into the origins of vodoo as well as its every day life importance nowadays. It is still an integral part of society and much stronger than any imported religions even though the people also like to mix parts of different believes.

In the far north of the country we visited the Somba, a group of people that have been living in relative isolation until quite recently. They are famous for building their mud housings at least 500m apart from each other in the style of a fortress as protection against slave raiders.

Best part of Benin was the Pendjari National Park where we saw a huge variety of wildlife unexpected for West Africa. Elephants, hippos, buffalos, jackals, warthogs, many kind of antelope and so on.

I don't want to destroy the chronology so here are some photos of the far south of Senegal and Guinea-Bissau where we left the Cruiser behind to visit the Bjagos Islands.
