At last Sunday meeting, the club plans to run Rattlesnake Canyon on Saturday April 22. I was volunteered as your trail leader for the run.

Let's plan to meet at 9:00 am at the intersection of CA-247, aka. Old Woman Springs Road and Rattlesnake Canyon Road (34.36997799862072, -116.65071204502537). Be sure to gas up in before hand. I get mine shortly after exiting I-15.

We will depart between 9:30 and 10 am toward the canyon, travel along to the entrance to Mottino Wash (34.27584537520875, -116.66256972206524) and stop for pictures at the BLM cabin (34.261434466599155, -116.65628412659761). There are a couple options to connect with Viscera Spring Road (34.25837490373796, -116.65570094741612) that leads to Burns Canyon Road (34.22678297504749, -116.6368881708269) and toward Pioneertown Road (34.18166940839675, -116.53593485885611). At the eastern edge of Pioneertown is a watering hole where we can stop and enjoy a late lunch 🍔 🥛 ;) with some of the locals.

This will be an easy day ride of approximately 27 miles with some obstacles that may require a bit of spotting and even rock stacking. I expect the weather to be sunny, cool, and dry.

Mottino Wash is a 1.8 mile black diamond trail that connects at both ends with Rattlesnake Canyon Road. A technical trail for those with well-prepped vehicles. Body damage and mechanical breakage are likely. It is possible that some of us may attempt the trail and meet up on Viscera Spring Road.

After the BLM cabin, there is an alternative connector - Mound Spring Road - that we may wish to explore before heading onto Pioneertown.

Please reply to this post if you plan to attend (even if it's a less than 50/50 chance).

I look forward to seeing you.

DT

I am gonna try and make it. Thank you!

Newcomer here, plan to join this run on the 22nd! 75% Yes …
Welcome to the group. We are a family friendly and low keyed group of off-road enthusiasts. I've recently joined the group compared to the fact that SoCal TLCA as a club dates back to 1989. Many of today's members are second generation members. Some started wheeling with their parents in car seats before they were mandatory! I'm glad to have caught your attention. I hope your 75% will be 100%. Looking forward to meeting you in person.

I'd be there except I don't know if I'll have my rig back from the body shop in time. Are ride-alongs a thing? I'll sign a waiver. Might actually help me to see how someone with more experience navigates an 80 through obstacles, since I obviously have a long way to go.

Hey DT, doesn't look like there's an easier bypass around Motino so my rig on 33s with no lockers (yet :)) will be out for this one. Have fun out there!

I could be wrong but rattlesnake has the option of going through Motino, not mandatory AFAIK
That is correct , motino wash(side spur )is not required to run ( Rattlesnake)the trail .

Mottino Wash is optional from Rattlesnake Canyon. I have not seen anyone with expressed interest in Mottino for this weekend. When I pre-ran Rattlesnake Canyon a couple weeks ago, Ron and Evelyn drove a stock FJ60 on 31s and no locker. Your rig will get through.
I hope you decide to join us for the day.

Is that a back seat? I Got tmy rig back from the body shop, but it goes back in to Primo Motorsports on Friday for a few maintenance items in preparation for my multi state road trip.

I’m so bummed! I’m gonna miss another run! I have to be in LA for my granddaughter’s birthday party. Have fun!
