At last Sunday meeting, the club plans to run Rattlesnake Canyon on Saturday April 22. I was volunteered as your trail leader for the run.
Let's plan to meet at 9:00 am at the intersection of CA-247, aka. Old Woman Springs Road and Rattlesnake Canyon Road (34.36997799862072, -116.65071204502537). Be sure to gas up in before hand. I get mine shortly after exiting I-15.
We will depart between 9:30 and 10 am toward the canyon, travel along to the entrance to Mottino Wash (34.27584537520875, -116.66256972206524) and stop for pictures at the BLM cabin (34.261434466599155, -116.65628412659761). There are a couple options to connect with Viscera Spring Road (34.25837490373796, -116.65570094741612) that leads to Burns Canyon Road (34.22678297504749, -116.6368881708269) and toward Pioneertown Road (34.18166940839675, -116.53593485885611). At the eastern edge of Pioneertown is a watering hole where we can stop and enjoy a late lunch with some of the locals.
This will be an easy day ride of approximately 27 miles with some obstacles that may require a bit of spotting and even rock stacking. I expect the weather to be sunny, cool, and dry.
Mottino Wash is a 1.8 mile black diamond trail that connects at both ends with Rattlesnake Canyon Road. A technical trail for those with well-prepped vehicles. Body damage and mechanical breakage are likely. It is possible that some of us may attempt the trail and meet up on Viscera Spring Road.
After the BLM cabin, there is an alternative connector - Mound Spring Road - that we may wish to explore before heading onto Pioneertown.
Please reply to this post if you plan to attend (even if it's a less than 50/50 chance).
I look forward to seeing you.
