Have a 1979 (11/79 manufacture date) & had a new master cylinder & brake booster installed. Mechanic installed them & now I get about 1" of brake pedal play that engages the brakes, & then pushing brake pedal further will just about send me through the windshield. Is there an easy adjustment to be made? Thanks in advance for your ideas.

Does it feel like the brakes are all or nothing? Some times the reaction disk can be dislodged inside the booster. It might be laying in the bottom of the booster.

The master cylinder pushrod on the vacuum booster needs to be adjusted for length, there needs to be a miniscule amount of play between the pushrod and the master cyl plunger at rest.

After that then the brake pedal can be adjusted. It's all in the Chassis factory service manual.

here you go:
